Another Tim Kelly would be good

If we're sitting bottom of the ladder it doesn't much matter if we have priority access to him or not (assuming the club is considering him).Comment

Q1: Does Kyle Dunkley has the option to bypass the mid year draft & only nominate for the National Draft (again) where we have another chance to secure him as a F/S?
Q2: By not allowing F/S to nominate their respective club in the mid year draft, won't this tempt clubs out of finals contention (like us) to tank (temporarily)?Comment

I don't think he's exactly what we need to spark some life into our list right now, but he has apparently had a pretty good start to the season. And I doubt that anyone available in this mid-season draft is likely to make much of a difference (unless there really is another Tim Kelly lurking out there somewhere).Comment

The club had him up for a week or so to participate in pre-season training I believe, but then elected not to take him. Even if he has a preference for playing for the club, he would be daft to pass up the opportunity to be drafted now in a hope that the Swans might take him at the next draft (under the FS rules, which I think extend to U19s). Anything can happen between now and then, including the Swans not then electing to draft him.

Kyle Dunkley and Adam Tipungwati are the two undertaking medicals who each played one NEAFL game for the Swans last year. With Tippett retired, Naismith permanently injured and Cameron out of favour our greatest need might be for a monster tap ruckman. I am not sure how Jack Blair is going in the SANFL and don't know about his general skills but he did have a great day out in the NEAFL last year. Otherwise the offerings in the draft are a bit meh. A number of ex Swans there but I don't see us taking any of them.Comment

Unlikely to be any player out there that will make a difference as none of them have done an AFL preseason this year. From reports no one is smoking it in other leagues either. Clubs are seeing this as snaring for free an overlooked player who has advanced further and quicker than expected when they were overlooked during the pre season pick them up for free period.
So a Kyle Dunkley could fit that category.
Looking likely we'll have a very early pick if not the first pick. More important to get the ND right and have pick 1 :-)Comment

I think they should find a spot in the coaching box for Kells.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Mid-Season Rookie Draft: Who's having medicals and at what club - AFL.com.au

It seems the draft is 22 May, which means it will have to be based on ladder after Round 9 at the latest. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

I'm not saying there will be a Tim Kelly out there but I think at least one or two of the players drafted are likely to go on and have successful AFL careers. We have seen many times before how players drafted after having been overlooked have gone on to have success, whether Cat B rookies or the players Essendon drafted after their mass suspensions or players like Kelly, Brodie Mihocek and, closer to home, Tom Papley, Dane Rampe etc etc.

They reckon we're interested in Jarvis Pina: Jarvis PINA | WAFL. I would have thought we already have a bit of depth in this department with Rose, Wicks, Foot all vying for selection behind the best 22 already. All opinions are not equal.
