It is utterly ridiculous to talk about Blakey to the level that he has been talked up to at this point, and who knows what the future may bring, but he reminds me more of a young Wayne Carey than a young John Blakey (maybe it is the arch of the back). I know that people had referenced his ability as an on-baller and he has played along the wing at times, but he just looks like the kind of player who, with a bigger body, would dominate at centre-half forward.
So, here's to being ridiculous: the king is dead, long live the king!Comment

Indeed!
Yes he is probably being overhyped, but he already has so many of the skills that are so hard to develop. He needs his body to catch up and we have every reason to be optimistic he can become an outstanding footballer."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Blakey looks every bit as good as we were told, and he's still growing into his body. Outstanding pace for a guy his height, looks to have endurance, very quick footy brain that seems to anticipate and react whilst others are still thinking, big leap, ground skills outstanding. All this at 195cm, nice for pick 10. Will be a fascinating career to watch develop.Comment

Blakey is a KPP if I have ever seen one. Add some muscle and he could be the dominant CHF of a generation.Comment

Longmire has spoken of Blakey as a potential midfielder but you may know betterComment

We should go hard......
"Sier would be a first-choice midfielder in other teams
Because of Collingwood's luxury of midfield stars, it took until round 12 for Sier to break back into the Magpies' senior side. It was a long wait, also in part due to niggling injuries that interrupted his continuity. But with Dayne Beams out of the side with a hip injury and potentially missing the rest of the season, Sier has returned to the Magpies' onball unit and showed his ability to win the ball and feed it out to his teammates. Sier collected 20 disposals and six clearances against the Western Bulldogs in Sunday's win, following a 23-disposal and nine-tackle effort against the Demons. Sier, who played in last year's Grand Final loss to West Coast in a breakout season, is out of contract and will have a number of suitors circling because of that dig-in ability." - Callum Twomey

Left field time, it may appear that Port Adelaide are looking at ways to get Brody Grundy and that Paddy Ryder may not be in their plans. How about we try help this to happen, Darcy to Collingwood, Brody to Port and Paddy to Swans with a number of other picks trading places as part of the deal. Just sayin'.spriteComment

Ryder was my favourite ruckman a couple of years back, but I agree that we shouldn't be looking for a ruckman near the end of his career at this time.
And this talk about Brody Grundy seems ridiculous. He's contracted next year, after which he can become a RFA. I can't see Collingwood letting go of one of the top handful of players in the AFL.
I also can't see Collingwood letting got of Sier, who has indicated that he wants to stay at Collingwood as well. Collingwood have a lot of good midfielders, but not many young ones and they need the likes of Sier to take over for their core group of midfielders at the back end of their careers.
I couldn't see us turning our backs on signing a star midfielder like Coniglio, but that seems unlikely to happen. Other than that, I don't see a need for picking up more depth players this year when we have so many emerging players that need AFL experience. Having come this far down the road building through the draft, we are in a good position to just continue in the same vein, putting our efforts into keeping the current group of players together.
It's becoming increasingly evident that Rowbottom will be a gun inside midfielder, to be added to an impressive list of emerging talented midfielders. We have a good balance of inside and outside players and the overall pace of the squad has dramatically improved from a few years back.Comment
