Realistically, if the Crows did get Grundy then O'Brien would undoubtedly be part of this trade. In my opinion, Grundy will stay a Pie.

Also, as good as Rose has been since coming back, I don't think he has any trade currency. He is still on the chopping block for delisting.

I think Rose now needs game time in the mids for the rest of the season. He's been doing a lot of good things each game and I could see become a permanent fixture (provided we now back him in). I'd like to keep Rose as part of our midfield brigade. I think he's good enough to offer a contract extension and wouldn't cost much to do so.

Rose, Clarke and Fox may all be outside our best 22 next year, but are good enough depth players to retain. They are certainly better than the crew from last year of Towers, Robinson, Marsh and Foote. The current group all look as though they could be 1st team selections with some more game time and development, while last year's crop (except for Foote) seemed to have peaked out.

I wonder if any of the players picked up this year will be retained next year: Knoll, McClean, Hirst. At this stage of the year, I'm not sure about any of them.

I reckon McLean is a goner and probably one of Reynolds or Tucker too. In fact of our 9 rookies I don't know that there is one that I am really confident will be retained (whether promoted or not) although obviously probably at least half of them will be I just couldn't say which. I reckon Wicks has been good and is likely to be retained, probably Bell too but I really don't know. I think Knoll is actually a pretty good chance to be retained too. Remember we already have BOC coming in next year and will no doubt want to select other rookie talent too.

From our senior list Reg is gone. Macca and Kizza I reckon are both pretty definitely gone too. Probably Smooch will be retained but I don't know. Might depend on his body and the news there. Doubtful whether Menzel will be renewed, we'll have to see how his body and form hold up over the rest of the season. Still a question marks over Rose and Fox despite the fact they have gotten some games. Real chance they could be delisted or traded.

Reynolds was already given another year on the rookie. I thought it was a bit early extend his contract, but no big deal. I think Tucker may be cut due to his serious hamstring problems this year on top of his ACL last year. It doesn't look like his body is holding up.

Reynolds has already been given a contract for next season, so we know he will be retained.

Tucker is hard to call. The Swans knew he wouldn't play early this season, but his recovery from his ACL hasn't been straightforward. If they think he is physically OK by the time list management decisions come around I reckon they'll give him another year, given he was highly regarded in a deep draft before he did his knee. If there are doubts about his ongoing durability, he may be unlucky.

Agree that Wicks has done enough to earn another year.

The rest of the rookies I reckon still have it all to play for. Amartey and Pink look like they could eventually become senior players but equally well might just fall short. Bell I reckon needs to improve over the remainder of the season. He's progressed since last year, and he's looked good in games where the Swans midfield is on top, due to the work of Rowbottom, Rose or Fox. But in games where those players have been absent, I think he's gone missing. He needs to show he can command the NEAFL midfield in the way that those players do.

As for those we picked up in the supplemental period or draft, I'm agnostic. They too have the next two months to impress. Hirst clearly has some talent but he's so slightly built (and is already 19 or 20) that it's hard to see him ever getting big enough to be an AFL player.

Is Cunningham a restricted free agent? He's not on the list of restricted free agents that the AFL published today (updated version), and I'd be surprised if he were restricted (while admittedly knowing next to nothing about the club's salary structure).

I hope Tucker gets another year on the rookie list. I remember hearing how emotional he was about getting a chance in the AFL when he got picked.

I think there is a possibility he gets resigned. I remember Pink got extended last year when he missed the whole season. And I think Tucker was initially earmarked as a medium specialist defender who could replace Smith. And we don't have a lot of that type of player.

Going against him is that we have that Irish player coming as an international rookie and an extra three rookies from this season. So there will be hard choices picking who gets to stay.

I'm a Rose fan and think we should keep him - he's playing well. But I do concede that he's not going to attract a lot of trade attention. Most likely would be a deal something like Rose + pick 50 for pick 48 or maybe Rose for a late 4th round pick, mostly so that he can get to a club he wants to go to.

It makes me naucious to think that either Carltn or Melbourne will get Rowell or Anderson. Rowell in particular would be perfect for us.

Several draft commentators are saying it's very even past the first 4-5 so we should get a couple of good prospects with our first and Saints second
