Saints don't even have an appointed coach at this point!

Heard on SEN that Jones drove into StKilda headquarters this morning in a white Commodore.Reported by a listener out for a morning walk. I would say he is gone regardless of who he is talking to. With all the retirements and space in the cap you would think by now we would have come to terms with him if he was staying. Going to the highest Melbourne bidder for mine. Maybe Carlisle will be in negotiations.

I think we can afford to let Jones go but ONLY if we demand something decent. I'm sick of us getting bent over at the trade table.

Would be mighty annoyed if we traded him for their 2nd rounder.

Particularly as they already traded that to us for Hanners.

I reckon Carlisle would be a good pickup for us. 200cm defender, pinch hit in ruck, play a bit forward if required, only 27. Haven't seen the best of him of late due to injury but just the sort of player who could kick on with us. Plus it would take the heat of Melican and also free Rampe to play more of a running role and pickup a medium / small forward. IMO Rampe would be unstoppable in this role. Then Mills into the midfield to fill the hole left by Jones.

Hypothetically, how would Rampe go as a midfielder?

Yes, Papley is contracted for 2020 which is why I can't understand the increasing noise of him going to Carlton. The club would have to agree to release him from his contract for that to happen, which doesn't make sense because he is very much a required player and we also have 12 months to change his mind if he indeed has desires returning to Vic.

Yep, with space in the cap, you'd think we'd keep him - unless he's searching for a godfather offer.

Interesting to look at drafting from a different perspective. ie position

Brisbane are also apparently using point of origin as a draft determinant to end the fly home factor. They have been avoiding kids from metropolitan Melbourne in particular and focus on country kids.

At one stage the Swans also did something similar, they had a huge number of Old Xav's school boys on their list, apparently when they got homesick they would all go over to Hanner's place, sing the school song, eat watery porridge and spank each other on the bum.

Some of the above is speculation, but it suggests the Swans have previously been mindful of flight risks when recruiting.

I'll be rip SNORTING mad if we swap Jones for Carlisle!

Saints have very little trade currency, pick 5 (or 6 if GC get requested PP) then pick 55. Carlisle is also contracted for something like $750K for 2020 decreasing his trade value or Saints will need to pick up a fair slice of his contract.

Saints have next years 1st pick also to offer

Probably pick 4 thru to pick 8 at worst me thinks with their current list

Let’s be honest the Saints are in dire straits

                            They look terrible

They are already desperate like last year to bring in experience of which jones has and they maybe offering $600k to $700k pa

That would be lunacy for us to offer even close to those figures

If they offered a banged up Hannes $800k pa then offering Jones as above is legit
"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I can't see how Carlisle helps the Swans. At 28 in October, some injury concerns and off field issues, he's not exactly the kind of player we should want to add to our playing group. It also shuts the door for senior football for a lot of players competing for the main key defender role: Melican, McCartin, Pink, Maibaum. What happens to them?

Anyway, I don't think a swap would be on offer. Perhaps Blake Acres for Jones wouldn't be bad, but I think Acres may be part of a Brad Hill deal, considering Acres is from Perth, but that's just conjecture as I don't recall anything about Acres wanting to 'go home'.

I can understand that clubs would be interested in both Jones and Papley, but I don't see what the big draw would be for them to want to leave the Swans, nor why the Swans should capitulate and let either go easily.

I haven't recovered from Anthony Rocca leaving because he was missing his mum's cooking. Every time I see him lurking around
the Collingwood bench now I'm reminded of it because he looks like he hasn't stopped eating since. Soft. As. Butter.
