I notice that our last two picks have drifted into 65 and 68 now, and may come in further, I wonder if we may use one?

I'm hoping we might have a plan to turn what was 25 and 44 into something a little higher up. But it may be that we think one of the players we want will make it through.

I understand why they've split the draft over two nights, but once it started I just want them to get on with it. I can't stand having to wait for gratification!

He's got a sister in Newcastle and his maternal grandfather used to play for South Melbourne. I'm feeling very positive about him.

It really helps that he's been at boarding school and loved it. Speaking from experience, if you thrive away from home at a young age, then you really never have that go home feeling, providing you are happy with where you are and your family is well from a health and emotional point of view.

His parents seem lovely too, very supportive. If he can play (and I'm confident he can), I think we have ourselves a long term keeper.

"Swans spring surprise" the AFL say.
              Howso?
Didn't we get him at pick 5 - how was that surprising?

First, great to see the video. Very positive and encouraging to hear his parents say they think we'll like him and he'll like us, and to see them so happy.

Second, any chance we can shop those picks to Port (who need points to pay for Mead) as part of a deal to move up to their pick 22 (DVI 845) and get Robertson? Are they perhaps not allowed to accumulate so many picks because they don't have list spots to accommodate them? E.g. would they be able to accept picks 27, 45, & 65 (total DVI 1140) if they wanted to? I'd pay that much for their pick gladly.

Its a HUGE no no punishable by the Squad being given extra pushups, sprints etc etc . I know hes not to know that but if he was an academy kid they would crucify him for that and he would know never to present himself that way.

Stephens looks like the type they value , more understated , humble etc and probably in the longer term a good offset to Cambpell and Gulden if they are looking to the future.
I thought Flanders looked a good choice before this week but the last 24 hrs has changed my mind. I will be interested to track his career and what might have been.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Stephens is only 'left field' because it came from outside the Vic bubble group think.

Interesting so far for me that WA has had so few draftees despite winning the championships this year.

Two who played plus Georgiadis who didnt.

You would think when the dust settles that a few who were expected to go much earlier will go early in the second round eg Robertson.

Maybe the reverse go home factor of a few WA players in recent years is now turning interstate clubs off recruiting them?

we needed help in the midfield rotation asap and we have Taylor and Gray to help somewhat but they were not exactly the type of player we needed in comparison to Stephens

Dylan ......... an elite runner with smooth skills who can play inside outside and has played a year for Norwood while still 18 and in the draft was quite unique........... will no doubt help our cause of breaking from the contest if Stephens can get into the top 22 in 2020

Do a swap on next year with someone like St Kilda that has bugger all to play with this year so we can nab a few extra points with the Academy players coming through. I know it won't amount to much but I'd rather have an extra 100 points next year than leave them in the bank this year.

Yes, I would also be tempted to enforce a no backwards cap rule. As in, "What do you think this is!? The 1990s!?" And under a hot glaring sun, it's probably not the smartest thing to do.

And young Dylan did seem very personable in his interview, while his parents seemed very well adjusted. If it's correct that they only had one cross word to him in eighteen years, then that would be remarkable.

I think Flanders is a higher risk, higher reward prospect than Stephens. I'm not sure we should write a player off based on how he wears a baseball cap. I am amused he was sent to the Gold Coast and said: "I'm just rapt. It will be tough to move away from the family but I'm excited and stoked." The 2019 NAB AFL Draft - Top 21 picks

I also find it great news that he's proven himself capable of moving out of home and functioning. Also that he's already undertaken some tertiary education. The last thing any interstate team needs is a want away Melbourne milk-sop (I think I referred to them earlier as U18 hot-house flowers, but I'm feeling cranky today) who spends all his down time playing video games and updating his social media.

PS I'd love to know who his maternal grandfather is/was. Any clues?
