Splitting hairs over which is better. The issue is that neither are much chop and the ruck is a really weak area for us.

With you 100%. This thought that Cal gets smashed in the ruck, leading to us being non competitive is misguided. We struggle because our midfield gets owned. JPK rediscovering his best, along with our young midfielders improving, is way more important then bringing in a slow, lumbering, giant who might win a few more hitouts (which will just fall randomly to the ground) over Cal, who at least contributes around the ground. Does anyone seriously think Naismith can even come close to matching Grundy or Gawn around the ground, when he can barely even keep up with McEvoy or Zac Smith?Comment

He will get what is needed. If he deserves to play he will. If he impresses in the preseason he will play, if he doesn't he won't. It will mean he needs time. But I think he will be OK. No matter how light he was. I mean you could knock Fearless Fosdyke over by blowing on him but he was a hell of a player.
I think this year there will be some real vying for spots. Macca, Reg, Smithy, Kizza, Jonsie all gone. Does Foxy take the back pocket? I think this is his chance to cement a spot. Does Brand get Reg's spot? Who takes Jonsie's spot? Harry returns. Ronke will have learned how to beat the tagging defender. I can't wait to see him kick 10 and have 30 in the mids.
Dawson will be an absolute star. He showed just what he can do a couple of times last year. That goal where he stepped around three players was sensational. His kicking is elite.
Sam Naismith is tracking well and looks good in the drills. Can't wait to see Big Sammy back out there. His aggression was something we missed last year. He is tough, a very good tap Ruck and his second and third efforts are gold. He can also rove his own taps and being able to take the ball out of the Ruck suits him.
I think young Ling will come good. Riley Stoddart has added some really serious weight and dimension. He looks great. Oh and the hair is gone. Much better Riley. Grey and Taylor are interesting players. Grey is a really good player who was badly used at Port. I mean Port have made some really strange decisions over the summer. Delisting Grey and offering Howard, their best defender, a one year contract were two. My brother is a Power member and he is baffled by both.

Dylan rates well at the combine testing
with his elite running, exit speeds over 20m and use of the footy...... i think he will be making hard to stop him being in our top 22 by mid season like Rowbottom achieved
PS Sam Flanders tested a lot better then i expected

B: Lloyd, Rampe, McCartin
HB: Mills, AA, Dawson
C: Florent, Kennedy, Rowbottom
HF: Hayward, Reid, Blakey
F: Heeney, Franklin, Papley
FOL: Parker, Naismith, Hewett
IC: Gray, Cunningham, Taylor, Stephens
i have put Stephens not for round 1 but more likely round 6 onwards and then will stay in the team a bit like Rowbottom
KBs comments re Dylan Stephens:
“We’re really pleased to get him, it goes without saying. We’ve watched Dylan for a couple of years,” he said.
“He’s played a lot of senior football at Norwood this year and played with distinction there. (13 games)
“He really compliments what we were hoping to add to our midfield.”"be tough, only when it gets tough"

It took McVeigh three seasons to fully establish himself in the senior team. He, too, was very slight when drafted. Mind you, he was drafted as a 17 yo, and at a time when young players rarely got early opportunities at the Swans. Longmire has shown far more inclination to throw young players into the senior team if he thinks they are up to it than his two predecessors. Even when they are physically under developed. He seems to place emphasis on endurance rather than physical strength. So players like Hewett and Dawson has to plug away in the NEAFL, learning about the training standards required, while the likes of McCartin and Blakey and Hayward got very early senior exposure for their physiques.Comment

I elsewhere Stephens is already jumped up to 74kg as he was told to hit the weights
James rowbottom was taller and 76kg when drafted and was not man handled
i find the way the games rules are interpreted, "the triathletes" of the competition like Whitfields etc with awesome skills lighter builds, brilliant runners are finding their way a lot faster then decades gone past"be tough, only when it gets tough"
