Had a deficit of 400? points, pushed out their late 20s pick to pick 40 or something like that.
Pick 3 could draft an absolute star, would look very silly if you split it just to avoid a 2021 deficit and a Dustin Martin was running around for another club.
I don't see the deficit as a problem, we may trade in some 50s picks that other clubs aren't using this year to cover most of the deficit.
Pick 3 would nett us a really big premium if we are willing to risk it ....

I'd take this deal in a heartbeat. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

One other option if - and appreciate it is an if - the club decides Hogan can rediscover his best (which is bloody good).
We probably wanted to use pick 3 on a tall forward, given our list profile, and we have Campbell and Gulden coming in as mids. But there is a risk the best tall forwards - JUH, McDonald and Tillthorpe - are gone before our pick. And Grainger Barrass is a defender.
So pick 3 and 22 to Freo, for their pick 10 and 28 and Hogan - which equals around pick 18 before any changes to the draft order. Therefore probably 25 after father-son and NGAs factored in, and maybe another late pick swap to balance things a bit more our way.
That gives us a key forward, plenty for Campbell and Gulden - and still another late pick or so, as well as no draft deficit next year.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

This is the big elephant in the room . Established club players get so much more "side" benefits both during and after footy which the northern clubs just cannot match. COLA at least went some way to balancing that . What the melbourne based AFL media doesnt realise is that AFL is still most Sydneysiders (and same in Brisbane ) second third or even fourth sport. For melbourne based RWOers - to give some context , todays Daily Telegraph has five pages of rugby league content then two pages of horse racing and then on page eight or nine of the sports section , half a page of AFL of which most of that half page is about Cameron leaving. Many people here would struggle to name the two grand finalists let alone give any indepth discussion on the makeup of each team.I've heard Cats players manage to get into lucrative real estate developments at a bargain price!
GWS will no doubt force a trade, will not be taking just pick 10 compo for Cameron, need to fleece Cats of their pick 11 and one of the other firsts. Cats did set a high bar last year with their fleecing of WCE in the Kelly trade, that's the template GWS need to throw on the table at the start of negotiations.Comment

And we are certain that another key forward who has been told since they were 14 years of age that they are next best thing in the competition wouldn’t have the same problem !Had a deficit of 400? points, pushed out their late 20s pick to pick 40 or something like that.

I wonder if having a rich history, a plethora of past players and a genuine soul makes difference to the culture? This was such a problem for the Sydney Swans after relocating in 1982 that by the mid-1990s it would have been possible to field two competitive teams with all the players that had been poached from the club since 1982.
Once the club culture turned around and player retention was no longer a problem, Sydney became competitive enough to win finals, and eventually premierships.Comment

So after 2 years of living out his dream of going home to the Perth, he's willing to cut the apron strings for another venture out in the big boys world. Hard to hold back the tears.
Freo paid a lot for Hogan, considering what they got out of him: Picks 6 and 23. It's a tough call with Hogan; a good player with 'issues'. He does a lot of dumb things, both on and off the field, but when he's on his game he's a very good key forward.
The main part of the trades suggested involve swapping picks 3 and 10, which gets us to a high to mid 2nd round pick in value points. So Freo can look back and say they just blew away a pick 6. So it goes.
I think the numbers work well for us if we decide that Hogan is the player we want to carry our forward line for the next 6 or 7 years. I'm ambivalent about it. I'll have to mull it over and see what else is available.Comment

I am not sure that I understand the willingness to trade pick 3 to avoid a deficit in future years. Pick 3, Campbell and Gulden could be a transformative draft.
To my mind pick 3 should only be traded if something remarkable is on the table.Comment
