Im happy with the way most are progressing and i believe with the more attacking and free game style more will be able to show they can be great.

25yrs onwards is where guys really start to consistently perform at a high level, we just need to hold the guys in that age bracket otherwise we just turn into a nursery
The 2015 draft was 5 years ago yesterday. The top 10 was Weitering, Schache, Mills, Oliver, Parish, Francis, Hopper, Ah Chee, Weiderman, McKay.
I don't know if any of those are classed as elite yet. Maybe some of Weitering, Hopper, Mills and Oliver in 2 years.

Spent a half hour working out draft points after JUH, Campbell and Jones extinguish a heap of picks dragging our last few picks up the points table.

Currently by my calculations we can match Campbell at pick 5, if Hawks are being vexatious and Gulden at 23 without any deficit.

I'd expect that we'll do one more pick swap, 34 for Crows 40 & 56 or 34 for Brisbane's 53, 58, 63, 68 &69. The more of these late picks we own the better because that's more picks moving up the order, each one gaining another 15-20 points with each higher pick extinguished by bid matching.

We're in a good position already

Ironically if gulden stayed at pick 23 and Campbell slipped to pick 8ish we may have another 300pts leftover which is around a pick 48?

I think Justin McInerny was a pick 44ish ?

There is no evidence that any club has been vexatious when bidding on an academy/FS player. Despite having recent rivalry on the field and many of us not really liking the Hawks, I actually think we have a pretty good relationship with them off the field. After all, the last major dealing we had with them was us trading Mitchell quickly for pick 14. More likely Campbell gets bid on by Essendon and potentially later. Cal Twomey believes that Campbell may go as late as pick 12.

Even if 2022 more likely for finals......all the more reason to give more opportunity to Gould, Brand, Ling and maybe another KPD rookie?

Rampe
Mills
Melican
Brand
Dawson
Lloyd
Oriordan
Cunningham
Gould
Ling
T.McCartin ?

I suspect that the club has also made a call that the run with type roles of Fox and Thurlow can they develop even more vs our emerging talent?

I do think they can but they were handy in 2020 to play that type of role
Im all for giving the guys their chance to shine, although im still staggered how Gould could not get 1 single game

Had he played a bit people may have more faith in what we are now relying on

It's not worth the risk for a club to take. Imagine bidding on Campbell at 5 for the Hawks and we don't match it, and then Phillips/Holland etc becoming the next dusty. The Hawks staff would be destroyed by media and fans for it.
Tom Green last year is a great example of it not happening. I'd suggest KBs comments are just some posturing to encourage clubs to continue to do so.

This was a miscalculation. The points on recount is only 1851, as Syd76 posted. This would leave us short by 179 points, not 15, if Campbell is bid at 7 and Gulden at 20.

My apologies to Syd76 for mistakenly correcting his calculations.

Useful article summarising the changes with the rookie list and the relevant upcoming dates in the trade and draft cycle: https://www.afl.com.au/news/525384.

I think we are likely to move at least one more listed player to the rookie list - probably Ronke.

On the topic of rookies, what exactly is the point of them these days? As best I can tell their relevance is only that much of their salary can be counted outside the cap. In which case wouldn't you want to use it for your best paid players? I'm sure you're not allowed to do that but what are the rules? They can still be selected to play, even Cat B rookies now.

Thanks for your input. As usual it is consistently garbage.

I think both of your comments are out of order, Captain & Big Cat. Play the ball, not the man. It's no fun posting if you're going to be subjected to these kind of put downs. Even this year we have had people depart RWO because they have felt discouraged by the negative reactions to their comments.

I'm in the "rose-coloured glasses", "glass half full" and "faith in the club and the players" camp and so I understand the frustration with consistently pessimistic comments, but we all are entitled to our opinions. And they can all be legitimate. For those who are less sanguine about our future prospects, it must be equally frustrating to hear others of us always singing Hallelujah about how it's all going to be fine, and the club can do no wrong, while we're meanwhile languishing near the bottom of the ladder with a relatively young and unproven list and no guaranteed path to future success. This reaction, I presume, is borne from the same passion to the see the club succeed that we all share, and perhaps also an aversion to the uncertainty of the situation we find ourselves in, not knowing whether the kids we're investing in are going to be capable of realising the dreams we hold for them.

It's quickly becoming a legacy product. I don't believe there are the same contractual obligations (ND players get 2 years and potentially a higher base wage). But practically, no major difference these days.

I could not agree more. Some posters here can't accept having a different opinion to themselves.

Having posted my disappointment about losing Fox (as have pretty much most posters on here), the last thing I expected was to be personally slammed for my opinion and as it seems, previous opinions. As you have pointed out, some leave the board when this happens, I choose to defend myself.

I will find it crazy (unless he declines an offer) if we don't offer Matthew Kennedy, who has been delisted from Carlton (formally GWS) a contract from Thursday when clubs can offer them to delisted players.

He has obviously got a promise to be re-rookied by Carlton but him being a Sydney boy apparently and also a 190cm midfielder who played excellent footy in the 2nd half of the season in a somewhat different role, would be a perfect addition to our young midfield group!

He is still only 23, was taken at pick 13 in his draft year so obviously was a highly rated junior and is starting to show signs now of putting it together.

We have created plenty of room with our delistings, I hope he is one reason why!
