509 - 600k for 2 years. If he hits the heights of being considered elite, 1mil+ for 3 years. Plus he wants out of Melbourne. If he backs himself, could do very well. Personally I don't want him. As much a risk as PMac imo, about as much upside (PMac can actually kick for goal) but we could get him for peanuts. And help us keep Tom.

I'd love us to draft Wil Phillips if he's available and McDonald has already been selected. I know he's a smallish mid at 180cm but he's the best midfielder in the draft and it is unlikely we'll get another opportunity again drafting the best young midfielder in the country if we improve like we think we will.
You start your premiership tilt by building a dominant star studded midfield and adding him along with Rohan and then Campbell and Gulden plus Parker and some others we already have will be an important ingredient for our future dominance!

If we're going to load up on midfielders this draft, it makes sense that we will have to try and engineer a trade for one of our mids who has currency. We have a critical need for a ruckman and a KP forward and our points situation would suggest we will need to use all of our current trades in sorting out Campbell, Gulden and using pick 3.
Assuming our draft haul this year will all play firsts, it doesn't leave many spots in our midfield, especially once you factor in Parker, Rowbottom, JPK, Stephens, Blakey, Jmac, Hewett, Florent and possibly Heeney, Mills and Dawson. It makes no sense to have so many midfielders when we have such limited ruck and key forward options. Remember too we have often been beaten in the midfield and around the contest so a mini regeneration if our midfield is not necessarily a bad thing.
So my thoughts would be:
1) KPF, Campbell and Gulden drafted in.
2) Look at trading options on Florent (his F50 delivery just not getting any better) or Hayward (Any number of our mids can play forward) to get a draft pick to trade a genuine ruckman.
3) If Hewett wants to go back to SA (nothing to say he does though), then a direct swap for one of Ports big guys. Problem is they don't need an inside mid / tagger, so maybe come via Crows.Comment

Generic Trade News article on each clubs possible trade targets & picks in hand. With us, it suggests Connor Blakely & Pruess are on our radar. JD is favoured going to Brisbane. Jeremy Cameron could be possible target based on observation from Ross Lyon (would have shades of Buddy if this does eventuate!).

Florent and Hayward are both contracted till 2024. Horse loves them, and they seem to be inseparable.
I haven't heard anything about Hewett wanting to go 'home' to SA. I think his partner is from Sydney, and they just had a kid, so he probably calls Sydney home now. Anyway, he's another Longmire favourite. George is a very versatile player with good skills. You don't finish 2nd in the B&F unless the coaches think you're doing well.
I agree with you that we don't need to add to our midfielder numbers beyond Campbell and Gulden, and we need to focus on a ruckman and key forward.Comment

Sydney Swans have re-signed young gun duo Will Hayward and Oliver Florent | Sporting News Australia.
not that two years matters unless you are bottom of the table"be tough, only when it gets tough"

With Stevie J gone, maybe Hayward will try and curb his flamboyancy and return to some sensible play in the forward Half.
I think he just tries to bite more than he can chew when in forward 50.
Oli Florent has developed well with good composure and good positioning but lacks in the polish because he is again thinking that he needs to hit the perfect player given we dont have dominant forward. I think with the forward half a bit better functional with better personnel next year, he may not hesitate and hold the ball for a bit too long and muck up the entry. I would certainly not trade him this year but he is on notice for next year especially if players like Rowbottom and Campbell surpass him in that category next year.
I think we have enough good characters pushing the ball in forward 50 and that would get better with campbell.
If Adelaide get 2 drafts before us - I think Riley Thilthorpe (Ade), Elijah Hollands (Ade) , Jamara (WB) and Logan McDonald (NM) would be gone.
Next for us would be
Tanner Bruhn, Will Phillips - Mids
Denver Grainger Barras, Nicolas Cox, Zach Reid - Defenders
Oliver Henry - Medium forward
Looking at highlights - Tanner Bruhn seems a bit more classy than Will Phillips with ball in hand with good kicking sense. But he is injury prone.
But all three Campbell, Tanner and Will are similar in size and weight ! Point of difference - I am not sure looking at the videos. Campbell seems classy compared to the other 2. I am unsure why he is ranked lower than the other two.
Oliver Henry probably is not going to be drafted by us, we have enough of those kinds on our list.
Denver or Nicolas are interesting prospects if we think that Tom McCartin's future is forward.
Maybe we get someone such as mature age rookie in the form of Tyler Keitel who can play both back or forward, Is decent size and is currently the leading goal kicker in WAFL.Comment

I concur that Hayward needs to go back to basics, while Florent has been overtaken by Rowbottom who is 2 years his junior. If that isn't motivation to lift his game, i don't know what is.Comment
