also interesting has been there near identical comments by Horse and Harley re setting expectations for 2020 about just being competitive and winning the tight games
havent heard the Swans be so open to address early in pre season the year ahead and expectations etc

Longmire's and Harley's comments are designed to take the pressure off our young group. Compared to the past probably 15 or so years where we have been expected to play finals, we now have a 'free hit' for a couple of years as we build up. Good position to be in I reckon.

I’d say the comments are to take the pressure off themselves, another dismal season and it won’t be the young playing group feeling the pressure

Longmire has just signed a long term contract so not a lot of pressure there. I reckon their public comments are sensible. In private I'm sure the coaches will be appropriately demanding.
The AFL site shows the Swans have 14 players eligible for a Rising Star nomination - the equal greatest in the competition; f its self, not a big deal, but some indication of "expectations"
To qualify, a player must be 20 or under at 1 January, and have played less than 10 games.
The others with 14 are the 2 QLD clubs, Brisbane and Gold Coast; Richmond and Port Adelaide have 12.
The lowest (with 8) are Essendon, St Kilda and Western Bulldogs.
Fit Buddy

I still think 2021 is going to be the year when it all starts to come together... but happy to be proven wrong.
A fit Buddy the #1 reason for a Swan bounce? Gimme a break, pure "Buddy Goggles" journalism.
I too anticipate a climb up the ladder, and of 2003-like dimensions. But that anticipation is not dependant on Franklin turning back the clock by a decade.
The swans have named Taylor as a midfielder in the profiles
Plus we have about ten medium defenders listed lol
As Ludwig said in another thread a LOT of speed has come to the Swans, no one knows for sure how well we'll go next season, but we will definitely get there fast.

Disagree. A fit Buddy is far and away our best chance of climbing back up the ladder. With a supposedly easier fixture second.
If Buddy doesn't play the great majority of games, and it's not looking great with his 10 week break underway, we'll get nowhere near the top 8 this year.

I think that's ludicrously undervaluing the rest of the squad, but time will tell.
I do believe that out of adversity comes opportunity. Based on this view, the doubt about Buddy for the start of the season may create opportunities for others to flourish leaving a long-term gain for the team.
