Thanks for that neifws - it does seem to me relevant in thinking about the ET stuff up. Have support services improved over the past 10 years?
Elijah Taylor banned for rest of season!

I have never said he hasn't done wrong.....just that he deserves a second chance and less pontificating from those who maybe shouldn't be throwing stones......which basically means everyone. This ain’t about me but can’t say I have ever caused a $50k fine, incurred the wrath of a state Premier, bought trouble to any company I have worked for, put an AFL season in jeopardy or deliberately broke quarantine laws during a pandemic. All after a special prior warning from the club.
If he did it accidentally or naively I would be empathetic. But he didn’t.
You do know that it’s ok if people have differing opinions to yours...Comment

I hope Elijah reads that article.....it could be a real turning point for him in his life and career.I had forgotten all about that story. Which led me to read this article, it is very good and I think illustrates the problems that can occur for some younger players.

I love your posts on this stevoswan.
What I find amazing is he has got a much harsher punishment than similar(ish) transgressions by Buckley and Sidebottom. Both excused away as "innocent" mistakes by the master of AFL spin, Eddie.
$50,000 fine would be all his yearly salary. Compared to 5% of buckley or sidebottoms?
All this 'homesick' and extra commentary sounds like racial profiling to me, and as we know the AFL is a racist administation and fan base (See Goodes), and so far the penalties for Aboriginal players are far higher than white players. We will see if its a trend up upwardly increasing fines when then next transgression occurs.Comment

I wonder what the best approach for a player like that, who has to make such a massive transition. I bet it comes as a shock to a lot of kids who never paid attention in school because they were going to be a footballer, then realise that when you are a professional footballer, you end up being in class (meetings) more than ever, and you cant goof off any more.I had forgotten all about that story. Which led me to read this article, it is very good and I think illustrates the problems that can occur for some younger players.
The Swan who fell to earth
Should the swans have kept him in Adelaide another year to allow him to mature, easing him into professional life via an SANFL club first ?Comment

Thank you for sharing the link to this article. I do remember Byron Sumner and his talent and really hope that ET can read this article or even get a chance to talk to Byron!I had forgotten all about that story. Believe Byron has had a good career in the SANFL Ended up with Marty Mattner at Sturt. May still be playing.Comment

You're funny.
I doubt we'll see him at the club next year.
I read an article in today's SMH about how he's been racially vilified.
It mentioned that ET is yet to face his teammates.
Let him face them - doubt he'd be able to look them in the eye.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

A couple of people have mentioned that ET received a specific prior warning before entering the WA hub. What is the source of this , I haven’t read that anywhere thus far.

Tom Harley mentioned this on SEN when interviewed and you can see that in AFL 2020: Elijah Taylor suspended, partner, Sydney Swan banned for breaching AFL COVID-19 protocols | FOX SPORTS “We’re extremely disappointed to be in this position as our staff and players are all well aware of both the AFL protocols and the restrictions we are required to adhere to while in quarantine,” Harley said.“We have spoken to Elijah at length and he understands the seriousness of this situation, which has also been reiterated to the entire team."Comment

Let's face it despite his "enormous talent" he fell to 36 in the draft for a reason. I guess that reason is there for all to see. Oh well you role the dice....Comment

I've been thinking the same thing......All this 'homesick' and extra commentary sounds like racial profiling to me, and as we know the AFL is a racist administation and fan base (See Goodes), and so far the penalties for Aboriginal players are far higher than white players.
