McGowan is way out of line and his comments reek of self interest. If he removes the AFL from WA , so what , its not like they have no where to go.

He is heavily invested in the whole tribal state thing which WA people seem to love him for, so he is doubling down when something like this happens.

Elijah was stupid but the reaction and the comments of people like McGowan are worse.

      Wow.
      Way to disrespect #37, much?
      Stupid kids.
I imagine he's learned a lesson - looking your teammates in the face for the rest of the season is punishment enough.
The AFL and the Swans were right in suspending him for the rest of the season. Harsh, but fair.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Really? He is the premier, people did vote for him and his party (I don't even know if he is Labor or Liberal but it doesn't matter).
Football is existing on the very fragile good graces of the state politicians, and any of them could pull the plug on it in a second.
If the people in these "footy hubs" keep messing up, it's over. And fair enough too. What if a footy hub breach turned into
the quarantine hotel debacle in Melbourne? I'm surprised our whole club wasn't thrown out of WA. It's just a @@@@ing game man.
It's not actually that important in the greater scheme of things.

Perhaps McGowan forgets that Taylor is a Western Australian.

McGowan is Premier of WA and is accountable to the people of his state.

So, of course he reeks of self interest.

Anything adversely affecting WA is of direct interest to him. And so it should be.

McGowan is only interested in winning votes which is why he won't kick the AFL out or do anything to reduce the chance of bringing the GF to Perth. Especially when the Eagles are travelling so well.

                My 2 cents worth.

He made a poor judgement call. Got caught and needs to be held accountable. (Being young and from WA give us some understanding to why, however no excuse.)

A punishment has been issued and he has been suspended for 6 games (or the rest of the season.. which ever is the greater)

I feel he should stay with the team and understand what being a blood is all about. He will need to have the support of the team to get him through this!

In part agree he should pay the fine off in installments.

Offer to carry the oranges or sports drinks. (to stay part of the team)

And get back on the track show his is worthy of keeping his spot and number 37. (Might want to give Goodes'y a phone call.)

Serve the punishment and get on with it!

McGowan might like to tone down the attack or the AFL Finals will be in Queensland!

This incident aside, ET has a lot of work to do on his game. It's not a time for him to go on vacation. Not much has changed for ET regarding him being a footballer. He's not injured. He probably wasn't going to play again this year anyway. So what makes him any different than another player not in our best 22, e.g. Sam Gray. I don't think Sam is going home. He's staying with the club and working on improving his game.

On top of that, I'm pretty annoyed with ET, because we got him with the pick from trading out Zak Jones. With ET's talent on display, the loss of Jones wasn't looking quite so bad. I'm happy with Harley's position on this. I'm all for giving ET every chance to build an AFL career with the Swans. I hope he can just get on with it and begin making up for his error by committing to becoming the best football player he can be. He's wearing the #37, the number of arguably the most professional footballer to ever play for the Swans. ET should follow in his footsteps.
Well said, LW! ET was always a gamble coming from WA with the go home factor in play. Hopefully, he will mature and learn from the experience. He certainly has great talent but to make it in the big league these days requires discipline and hard work as well.

Everyone's quick to say what should happen with Elijah, but none of us have the information required to make a decision. A lot would depend on him and his response, prospects for him learning from this mistake and whether he responds better to coaching & encouragement or needs a firmer hand.

I'm confident the club will ensure that he is fully aware of the seriousness of his actions and will take the necessary actions to ensure that in the future he is more disciplined, as long as he is with the Swans.

He is in quarantine so he won't be travelling with the team in the short term. I would still insist that he travels with the team after his quarantine for the rest of the season, then go home off season.

I thought his quarantine wasn't prolonged, but his girlfriend had to re-enter quarantine because she had had contact with him, and he hadn't completed quarantine. He was a risk of infecting her; she wasn't a risk of infecting him. ( State rules, not AFL rules pertaining)

I think that is a non sequitur. Elijah comes out of quarantine at the same time as the rest of the team (provided he tests negative) so quarantine in itself will not prevent him travelling with the team.

His GF, who had already successfully gone through quarantine once, is the one who must go through quarantine again as it is possible she might have been infected by ET (as he is not yet proven to be non-infectious at the end of 14 days).

Ps: I see I have posted a more loquacious version of cherub’s post above.

Hashed news.com article about Caro on FC last night revealing Elijah's GF crossed a golf course and jumped two fences to meet up with Elijah, who was then spotted & reported by two senior Swans players. Also includes Longmire's comments on AFL360 last night. Article does however reveal name & picture of Elijah's GF which I was a bit surprised they were able to dig up.

it’s kind of indicating the club might have realised they’d have a few issues for them to have discussed the situation specifically with ET prior to going to WA. After all that they still did it. Gaining the trust of the group will be a long hard road for him.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
