That was much more promising than last week's outing against Freo. Our midfield got annihilated in the first half, 30-10 in clearances, and to Horse's credit he changed things around and put Aliir in the ruck and McCartin down back, both of which worked. And we really turned it around in the 3rd quarter. If we'd kicked straight we could have got a lot closer at 3 quarter time.
I think our midfield is caught between the old guard, Parker and JPK who both look (and are) slow, and the newbies: Rowbottom, Florent, Lizard etc, who aren't quite there yet. Felt like we were beaten inside and outside the contest and structurally. They always seemed to have a player there to receive a handball over the top.
*Aliir looks a better prospect in the ruck than he does as an intercepting defender, although he's not much of a forward.
*McCartin looked like he'd found his spot today, particularly when he outbodied Charlie Dixon right at the end there.
*We have significantly changed the way we move the ball this year, above all trying to kick it back into the corridor, its clearly a work in progress, but its a vast improvement and pretty exciting when it works.
*We used to be one of the more efficient sides going inside 50 but today looked atrocious. I have a feeling that they'd been instructed to bomb it long rather than honour leads, but it really did NOT work.
*Sam Reid is not exactly setting the world alight right now.Comment

Great to see Joey hit back well.
McCartin looks like a key defender: 4 possessions in the first half as a forward; 12 in the second half as a defender. Four contested marks. Beat Dixon. He's quick and tough and poised.
Another good game from Fox, who keeps improving.
Mills was mostly good and Lloyd's another BSM chance this year. Extremely consistent.
Nine tackles from Wicks.
Disappointing from Reid. I doubt Bell will play next week. Melican well beaten. We need more from Blakey.Comment

Have you seen them outlined MB?
YET..............I do see factually that we are moving backwards on the ladder and I do sense protracted sideways for a few years..................Buddy gone........Rampe Gone and Kennedy Gone all very soon and not at their very bet any longer..........they have peaked and or injured !
So who will replace these amazing players ?
Kennedy?
Buddy?
Rampe?
who will replace this gap with the same dominance ?
will our junior draft picks balance the scales of past success??????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????
MB this is not about you vs me
this is about the Sydney Swans being given a fair chance vs the VAFL !!!
As mentioned Brisbane and the Suns were left in pain and at the bottom of the table for so long
Why do you think the Swans will be treated differently when all indications of intent have been crystal clear vs the swans for the last 4/5 years
why ?
The Lions and the Suns were not supported for so many years ! .............sooooooooooo many years !!!!
why will we ?
when will we ?
we aint gunna make it without the same advantages that WA, SA and Vic currently experience via players staying home................almost every supporter on this site pointed to we have an unfair advantage when recruiting...........they want to stay or go home !!!!! and that aint sydney !
we missed out on key recruits because melb was easier staying home
why will that change suddenly in 2021 ?? or beyond
Paps wants to go home
Rohan wants to go home
Jones wants to go home
and on and one on and on !!!
How many players want to leave the bubble vs stay at home ?
not many
we need many !!!!"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Auntie G, I think you have put your finger on something I have been griping about, namely, that our players are too close to each other and play in clumps rather than spread a few metres further apart and give themselves more room to move. When we do, you can see how much more movement we get without handing the ball to the opposition. That end-to-end goal is an example of what I mean.Comment

not abuse
nor head in the sand
apologies for raising my concern
apologies for appearing worried about our trajectory
I am simply concerned about our current trajectory vs other satellite teams that have encountered the same ILL fortune of nothing !!!
Brisbane 2005 to 2018.............. 11th to 18th (14yrs)
Gold Coast no need to mention
the love to these teams came so late it was just silly
it was after all sense prevailed
it fear the same for the swans
same trajectory"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Just had a look at the stats. They confirmed that Wicks is a goer. Laid more tackles than anyone on the ground and also tied with Parker, for most pressure acts, with 32. However, Wicks only had 70% game time, opposed to Parker's 90%, and was playing largely forward 50, rather than midfield.Comment

You’ve made your point AG. You’re welcome to your opinion. People disagree. You haven’t changed my mind and it seems like no one is able to change yours so can you just agree to disagree and move on?Comment

Maybe I’m just a glass half full guy but I thought that we showed heaps of promise. We played the team coming first at their home ground. We have injuries on injuries including probably our three best players (Buddy, Rampe, Heeney). Port have almost a full list available and yet we dominated general play for large parts of that game.
McCartin is a beauty! I have said for a while that I think he could be an AA defender but I can also see his value up front.Comment
