I guess it is what it is - this year has been just crazy in every way - be it life & footy - this year has been a nightmare for our club but I’m looking forward to next year (my 20thyear of membership) Our injured should be back (Hopefully) - life MAY be back to some kind of normal and Maybe our kids will just click with the senior statesman of our team - I’m hopeful for our clubs future.

Im not saying your are wrong and I am right
there are so many factors beyond our limited view of the Swans and the AFL that we cant control
if we suddenly land 3 players to replace the likes of Buddy, Rampe and or Kennedy at their best then push me in the corner and i wont make a sound
But the reality of the last few years or is that we have NOT been massively competitive with attracting some seriously important outlier players
we havent had them on the field together for some while now
we have recruited youth but no Dustin Martins or Dangerfields etc have ermerged as yet............i am not saying McCartin nor Blakey can make it........they might
What I am saying is that we are on the same recruitment journey as Brisbane and the Suns and or Carlton
I am genuinely concerned we will go sideways for a few years minimum if not more
I am not a pelican
I have coached rep sports and amateur sports for 25 years............i have coached 7 GF wins and our teams I have had the honour of coaching have made the top 4 over 20 yrs from 25 yrs
i do genuinely feel i have a sense of trajectory and or team list to be super competitive
I dont sense i am chicken little and the sky is falling in
I am seriously concerned that the AFL is ignoring the Sydney Swans ie a team that is massively dependant on players s from interstate to be attracted to move to Sydney........ for the Swans to be competitive.
Thats just my opinion
it is not an argumentLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 29 August 2020, 06:58 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

just to challenge the debilitating comments
really?
you find my sense of realism debilitating ?
you feel weak by my comments ?
come on
lets all grow up here
we are seriously in a trajectory with minimal support by the AFL
this is not about you vs me
this about an AFL that picks and chooses
this about an AFL that will support a WAFL, SANFL, VICtorian dominance before and a QLD Brisvegas or Suns dominance
they have let Brisbane do it once
They have let Sydney do it
They wont afford the Suns or GWS the same luxury
it is a manipulated system to support their growth but not ahead of their favourites for too long
The lobby of victoria will win in the end
we wont !
seriously the no trading
the buddy pay if he is injured bad luck
these were enough to smash our trajectory of being in the top8 for long
these areas were underestimated by most
but not by swans supporters
a little under the radar by some
note by others as ....................debilitating !!!!!
Swans fans have had to be resilient for long periods of time over history and now is another one of those times but our hope and pride in our club is stubborn....and there will be no white flag from me. Always glass half full.
Plus, it's better for the blood pressure.Comment

I applaud your positivity, but seriously, short of setting another record even lower score as Sydney or having the team struck down by a freak and unseasonal lightening strike, how on earth could we have had a worse effort than last week??Comment

A good spirited performance, with plenty of grit. This is where we are at as a team.
We won't be going anywhere with Bell, Thurlow, McInerney and the likes but our hands are tied by our injury list.
Still unsure where our next superstar player is going to come from.Comment

ok fair enough
i hope we have got it and the AFL sees a serious danger for the Sydney Swans
i hope we dont get the rough end of the stick which i sense started with the no trade and the buddy bad luck 9 years either way binding contract by the afl......first ever and not replicated
if it is more comfortable and more appropriate for this particular forum i will remove myself and my opinion........
and see you next year
many thanks for the discussion as it has been alive and generally with good will for the better of the swans"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I’ll give you Thurlow but Bell and Mcinerney have played less than 20 games between them. Bell (21 years old ) wasn’t great today but Mcinerney (20) was fair. Bell also has a good knack for popping up near goal, which isn’t a knack shared by too many of his teammates . Bit early to write them off I think.

Not expecting huge games from them but it's not hard to tell when a kid can play or not. Bell and McInerney just don't have it. Make poor decisions, fumble under pressure, make silly errors. Decent depth players but if they are in our best side in a few years time we're in trouble.Comment

Not certainty, just a feeling. I don't see much that either offer. McInerney can run. So can half a dozen others on our list. Bell can tackle. So can half a dozen others on our list. Neither would be getting games if we were close to full strength.Comment
