I agree with Barry that all this tends to point to a QLD grand final. (See also third Age article below.) However I don’t see any evidence of a Gabba clogged up with ‘hanger on ers’.

Caro was on outsiders last weekend (catch it on iview if you like), where the resident soccer guy was explaining how the movable A-league grand final has been a great thing to soccer fans around the country because it enables fans in these cities access to the premier event of the season.. And Caro dismissed it, even though its a very good argument. She is not representing the position of many people who live outside Victoria who wont get the chance to experience a home AFL grand final.

Any impartial journalist would see the value in a movable grand final. You'll never get cut-though penetration in NSW and QLD until its viewed as a national league with all states being equal.

Yes, we get the ever shrinking paper copy of the SMH thrown onto the footpath out the front of the house every morning and some
days there are no AFL stories in it. Even with the substantially reduced capacities for all games at the SCG and Giants Stadium, there

You deem it ridiculous that’s your opinion that doesn’t necessarily make it so.
My opinion is that it’s an example of selfish entitlement thats probably more disruptive to families than beneficial its two weeks not two months
These same players won’t have any issues being away from their families for extended periods during the end of season footy trip.
Opinions as long as they aren’t offensive are still allowed to be aired on this forum aren’t they ?

I thought there would be a bit of backlash against the QLD premier on this from border people with reasons to enter queensland for family or compasionate reasons.
It does reek of entitlement.

The AFL players have made "changes" not "sacrifices", as we all have. They were faced with the option of 1) No games, no pay, or 2) relocate and get paid.
Apart from the cochins, that seems like an easy choice to make.

I appreciate what they have done, but I dont hold them higher than all the essential workers that just carry on.

Yes it is common to want to have your family with however it’s not usually an option that’s available or viable . They are away for a few weeks not a few months. Most FIFO workers and the like would be amused by this scenario. Usually family’s are better off in their home environment anyway.
I wonder what the players in the sporting teams that headed to the UK or SA for a 3-4 month tour back in the day would think????

You make a very valid point about the AFL pandering to the entitled players. They are all going to be in for a rude shock when the end their playing careers and enter the real world.

Australia, on the whole, has overcompensated for this pandemic.
Governments, especially federal, have tried to keep the status quo rather than just accept the disruption and associated short term damage.
JobKeeper is a classic example, it was designed to keep companies and employee's connected for a short period, so they could rapidy start back up again.
The killer is in the last part of that sentence. No modelling Ive see says the country will rapidily start back up again. It will be a long haul into a new way of operating.

JobKeeper is unfairly distributed, is overloaded with rorts, and is costing us a fortune, and its primary benefit is now lost. Australia's consumer spending actually went up in the when the pandemic hit!

Agree about the rorting of jobkeeper however - but that is not necessarily because the concept itself is bad, but a reflection of poor implementation by the Feds.
