Won’t they have to go into 14-day quarantine when they arrive?Comment

Yes it is common to want to have your family with however it’s not usually an option that’s available or viable . They are away for a few weeks not a few months. Most FIFO workers and the like would be amused by this scenario. Usually family’s are better off in their home environment anyway.
I wonder what the players in the sporting teams that headed to the UK or SA for a 3-4 month tour back in the day would think????Comment

Honestly who cares?
The players have done their best to give us a season, they’ve had to make sacrifices to do that and I for one am very grateful. Has made this second lockdown somewhat more bearable.
It feels whinging for whinging sake .

From what I have read I think this thread has confused several events and their timeline.
The travel of partners and children into the Qld hubs was part of the conditions to which the players, through the Players Association, agreed for resumption of the season by moving into hubs.
Comparisons with other forms of away-from-home employment where workers (and their families) know their conditions of service before they sign on are irrelevant.
The large movement of the families (something like 400 people) took place about a month ago.
Firstly they had to spend 14 days in quarantine, then were allowed to join their player partners/fathers in hub accommodation. They are living under AFL restrictions including not being allowed to go to games (North were fined for breaking that rule).
According to the first Age article I’ve attached below the AFL has rejected the Swans’ request for players’ families to join them in Cairns. That might sound tough but it actually makes sense: our season will be over in about three weeks time - take off the 14-day quarantine period and there will be only about one week till the players can come back to Sydney.
The article says that some players will fly up to Qld this week. (And the second article below also mentions family members - I assume these are of players who will play finals whose families are not already there.) The players specifically mentioned are from Geelong, St Kilda and Richmond, all teams which will play finals, so getting these players through quarantine so they can be selected for finals if fit (eg Hannebery has to be recovered from hamstring surgery) makes sense.
The other people mentioned as flying up to Qld are ‘AFL officials and media partners’ (who will also have to go into 14-day quarantine). I have read elsewhere that this includes Gill and Paul Marsh (AFLPA). So they will have 14 days locked up in a hotel to bash out an agreement on list numbers and salary caps for next year!
Others here say Eddie is also going: perhaps that is in his media role?
I agree with Barry that all this tends to point to a QLD grand final. (See also third Age article below.) However I don’t see any evidence of a Gabba clogged up with ‘hanger on ers’.
