Just needs to get us to 50/50 on centre clearances.

And yes Bazza, he was a whipping boy and I will admit I belonged to that group. But he did improve with age.

there have been many whipping boys on this page who, like good red wine, have gotten better with age! (ie Benny, LRT)

Mathews returns to Sydney has reported that the appointment of Ben Mathews - " .. finalises Sydney’s coaching panel for Season 2021, with senior coach John Longmire and assistants Dean Cox and Jarrad McVeigh joined by Mathews and fellow new coach Don Pyke. "
        Other personnel updates:
        - Jeremy Laidler will continue to work with the club’s reserves side, as well as with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. (sharing the resources and reducing the share in the soft cap?)
        - Dennis Carroll is retiring
        - Brett Kirk - Head of Wellbeing and Development of the Club (not just the team?).

The next generation of Kirks It is the latest piece of feel good soft promotion articles penned by Brandon Lack on the Swans site. Wonder if he is now working part-time in our " Media Department"? or just coincident ?

Feel like they buried the lede, there. Dennis Carroll has been such a valuable culture-setter for a long time. A compassionate presence. All the best to Dennis in his retirement. Great replacement in Brett.

Go well Dennis Carroll! A huge loss. Part of the fabric of the Swans. End of an era.

Dennis Carroll is a Swans legend who captained us during those heady days of the late 1980s. His player welfare work in recent years has been brilliant as well.

Agree. Started with South at the Lake Oval as well. Seen it all.

It always heartened me to see Dennis regularly in the background at Swans games on TV, as a remaining link to the Lake Oval days. Met him couple of times, a real gentleman. Big blow when he missed the 86 finals series with injury as Captain, which we lost both games in close finishes. May well have been different outcome if Dennis had played. Still have the pocket size footy record when he played his 200th game. Wish him all the best and will always be a bloodsman.

Great post. In 1986 we had to play all finals at the MCG even though we finished 2nd IIRC. Dennis was a brilliant wingman when he first started out. Was often undersized playing on key forwards later in his career. Class act.

Anyone know whether Jarrod Crouch is still employed at the Club? I thought he was leading the Academy?

There was an article about the academy by Brandon Jack on the swans website a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned Crouch so I assume he is still there.

I want to know what's happening with Kennelly.

Crouch is still head coach at the academy.

Some substantial rejigging though of the junior structure though as a result of covid with similar rejigging of the academy such that :
                            1. Under 16/18 rep structure will become an u17/19 structure.
                            2. Academy has cut numbers in age groups by at least 20%. In the top end structure from 17s to 19s the numbers taken through will be much smaller with the focus on those that are are considered good enough for national championship level. Previously there would be 10-12 that say made Rams level at under 16s but with about 50-60 in the academy squad. This will be tightened considerably.

It shows the wisdom of encouraging AFL players to undertake education whilst playing. I think I remember Tadgh's degree was in history. Even though I'm sure it's Tadgh's sporting/coaching experiences which clinched the job, schools generally require a tertiary qualification.
