All being equal I wouldn't either. John going to North can be spun both ways to say why Nick will / won't stay. However I do get the impression the Blakey's are a tight family unit.
If Nick was to indicate he wants out to follow his dad and North were to throw up say pick 2, then we would have to consider it.Comment

Only place I’ve seen John Blakey’s move reported is in The Age. Strange nothing on AFL site or SEN. Has Jake Niall sold us a pup? Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

A few of our media staff would have already left due to the soft cap reduction and it is a long week end! BTW, even before the cut, we are always not too transparent and tends to disclose only the absolutely required information only. For example, it was never reported and we would not have known that Papley had his contracted extended to the end of 2023 until his request to return to Victoria last year was denied.Comment

This is pretty significant for the club. You’d imagine they would want to get ahead of the story. At least issue a statement.Comment

What's left of the Swans media dept have been reading RWO again. They've belatedly just reported the news of John Blakey leaving for the Roos after 14 years at the Swans.Comment

Only Horse was quoted in the report and I am disappointed that Harley, our CEO has not yet expressed his thanks when a long serving staff is leaving. At least Gardiner, the Football General Manager thanked Johnson on behalf of the club when Johnson left!Comment

As a Swans fan, why play the Vic Journo game? "Let's see what young talent we lure away from an interstate club back to Victoria!" To even contemplate a potential move shows disloyalty to a player who has already pledged his loyalty to us. It also implies he's a Daddy's boy. Not fair on the kid.....or your own club.Comment

Your assertion that by mere contemplation of Blakey leaving is showing disloyalty is naive. It's the ostrich approach of sticking your head in the sand and applying standards from a bygone era. We are in 2020, where a contract means nothing, both to clubs and players, ready to be broken.
And for the record, I want Blakey to stay. Whenever others here have been getting stuck into him, I have been a believer, in particular of him as a midfielder. I like the fact he is an academy player, which gives NSW players someone to aspire to. Hopefully he will have a long and successful career with us. But don't even think for a second North have not already asked the question.
Btw, a ton of venom for both Blakey's on North message board. Many supporters have not forgiven John for "allowing" Nick to nominate for us as opposed to father / son. What tools!Comment

That’s depressing. I noticed Nick has ‘limited’ access to the ability to post comments on his Instagram account. I think he may have done this some time ago but it suggests / indicates he had been getting unpleasant comments. There truly are some deadheads out there.Comment
