Yep I do. I thought he had a challenging afternoon and really struggled to get into the game at all. Looked very shaky - might just be a one off (unlike some others, I believe that its okay for players to be up and down a bit in their early years), but I think the coaches will want to see a lot more.

Rowbottom will learn a lot playing his current defensively minded role.
It's not a fair assessment to look at his disposal count or even his efficiency with it. He managed to keep Ed Curnow to 17 touches and 2 score involvements yesterday - he averaged over 26 and 6 per game this year. To then also get 14 of his own with 4 SIs suggests he won the battle comfortably.
His disposals numbers will increase quickly when he gets freed up to go after the footy more. That probably won't be this year.
Does anyone else feel Dylan Stephens has a really important fortnight ahead of him? I wasn't impressed by him yesterday - his disposals looks so shaky, and he didn't appear to move with a lot of confidence or conviction. If he wants a regular spot this season, he really needs to step up in the next 2 matches.Comment

"I am glad that people are comparing Stephens to McVeigh. I recall myself being concerned about McVeigh in his first couple of seasons. He ran around a lot but was slightly built and pushed easily off the ball. He had minimal impact.
If Stephens keeps at it and is dedicated then he, like McVeigh, can become a key player for us over time. He just needs to build up, become smarter with experience and begin to believe that he belongs in the AFL. At present he fumbles a bit under pressure (lack of confidence) and is easily cast aside."Comment

This is what I posted about Stephens a little while back on another thread. It seems relevant to this discussion:

You really get ahead of yourself sometimes.....Comment

You compared him to O'Keefe and compared Chad to Paul Kelly. Both great stalwarts of the club but only one was a superstar !Comment

There’s been a lot of comparison between Stephens and McVeigh, and a lot of it legitimate so it’s good JMc is around to help him through.
I actually think one other person I’d still love to have at the club for him is Maxfield. Young Dylan seems very sound defensively, almost too much so. He could be a bit more assertive at the contest, but that’ll come.
But what you’d love to see him do is be really assertive offensively. He showed a few glimpses last year but this was a real art of Maxfield. Once he won the ball, he was off. A big one for taking ground, and quickly. He’s got the pace, the foot skills and the smarts so use them.
Don’t get me wrong. I still think Dylan will be as good as any of the young crop. It’s just fascinating to watch different players. He’s almost too introverted, whereas someone like Chad W is a total extrovert but could sometimes pull back a bit.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

The nonsense you pair sprout
The titanic will rise from the depths of the cold Atlantic before we ever hear a peep of criticism of Warner from TB...... he has had multiple games this year where the absolute clear need for improvement in his decision making and general disposal efficiency have been obvious for anyone with two eyes open, but not a peep.... that won't change anytime soon because he has a hall pass from criticism.
Don't for one second however consider that to be criticism from me of Warner - more so just that if you are going to pick holes in some players week in, week out, you should do it to all players. Not just your favourite targets - and its clear this is an area where Warner will need to improve over time if he is to reach the stratospheric heights some are predicting for him.
Chad is a game breaking mid he is there to break tackles and burst away from stoppages. No one said anything about being a great user of the footy , even though he has proven a very nice kick at times . He can improve in that area and maybe he will maybe he wont. But he is doing his job and being an attacking explosive weapon around the contest , thats all you can ask from a 13 game player ! If he stops taking the game on then i will be the first one on here telling him to pull his finger out and do what he is in the team for !
Rowbottom is not that player he is a limited mid whose job needs to be winning hard balls and distributing to the more damaging players - the Chads, Jmacs of the team. To do this he needs to be winning a heap of contested possessions and he needs to be making clearances happen with them - he is doing neither of these things He doesnt even crack the top 100 players in the competition for EITHER of these categories ! They are two different players i hold to two different standards and ive never pretended not to

Rowbottom may not have outstanding talent but he contributes every week- our coaches are the best judges in this regard, not you or I. We all know your opinion, which you are fully entitled to, but could you please leave this alone?
There are plenty of other areas you can comment on but if you keep on with this obsession no-one will or should take any notice of what you say.And that would be a shame TB, as you are a passionate fan and can contribute to this Forum.
Please take it on board!Comment

I haven’t looked at this but maybe you can put CHAD in numbers?
How many breaks does Chad make per game? How many do players in his category of midfielders make ? What are the other attributes that players in his category need to have eg How many clearances ? How many tackles ? How many one percenters? How many inside 50s ? How many turnovers ?
What is his trajectory compared to his compatriots at the same age? Let’s compare him to Zak Butters for eg at the same age. Zak was doing the same before he got injured. Breaking lines and kicking in forward 50. How does he compare to Zak?
I don’t want to listen to your subjective feel before you put some numbers forward and if you don’t have any or think that you know better just because you can pay a few dollars to go to SCG - atleast I will know where you stand with regards to your knowledge in this matter.
I am sure they (chad RB JMAC) are all very good players. For every Bontempelli there is a liberatore. I am sure some people will like certain players more than others. But remember that denigrating a player just because you don’t like them and the number of times you do it is absolute trolling !Comment

It seems that you are besotted with one individual in this team game or maybe 2 and have very little patience for certain individuals in our team. Dare I say that you don’t seem to understand that certain superstars (mind you they are no one at present and they should be working as hard as anyone In the team) who have been given responsibilities that you think they need to do and they are doing go missing in games when it’s too tough for them to do anything other than the one trick they have.

Rowbottom is performing above his cost. Chad and J-Mac are smashing the cost v production differential. Florent, Mills and Heeney are performing at cost.
Blakey, Stephens and Ling are not performing up to their cost.
Gulden has so far exceeded his cost with brilliant production. Campbell and McDonald are performing at cost.
This is purely my opinion. I have no numbers.Comment

I look at young players in terms of where they were taken in the draft (cost ) v performance (production).

Seems peculiar not to mention Petracca??Comment

Heeney didnt cost us much! Thankfully we got him before they changed the rules regarding academy selections!! He was pick 18 and on the AFL site today there was a headline posing the question of who out of he and Steele from Stk would be the number 1 pick in that draft
Seems peculiar not to mention Petracca??Comment

Yep. And he is well behind Rowie at the moment. By a long way. Sorry TheBloods. The coaches (and I) know who is currently more valuable to the side. Let's hope he starts to show why he was picked at #5. Whereas Chad Warner was #39. Caleb Serong at #8.Comment
