While some havne't got to the levels we would have hoped, that is a solid period of recruitment to say the least.

So I guess the lesson is that on average we draft one per year who does not make it. 2014 was an especially bad year. 2013 and 2020 were exceptional.

I still think Zac Foote was stiff. He would have suited the current game style perfectly.

Absolutely agree. I am surprised that Leppitsch - who has been a senior coach and should understand the pressures on young draftees - would feel the need to make his point by naming a specific player. And in a way that pots the player, rather than just highlights different styles and different clubs.

And SEN really didn't need to make an article about it. There are hours of dribble broadcast over the course of every day, and they certainly don't turn most of it into articles on their website.

I go along with Barra. Both Hayward and Ronke don't suit our current style. Neither have the tank to keep up let alone compliment the team.

I think Hayward's endurance is pretty good. When moved to the half-back line last year he was able to contribute strongly. I also think he is more than capable of producing good football in a coherent forward line, as we currently seem to have, especially with the ball arriving quickly. However, we're only allowed 22 in the team and 18 on the ground at any time, so he'll have to dislodge Wicks or Heeney to get a chance in the immediate future.

Ben Ronke can clearly play but it doesn't seem as if his body has - or has been able to develop - the durability required. Even towards the end of the season that he broke through for his debut, he was carrying an injury. And I'm not sure he's been free of injury for more than a few weeks since then.

I would not be surprised if Hayward makes his way into our side in the coming weeks due to injuries or good form in the reserves. This missing out might just be the thing to motivate him to work harder to secure a senior spot. He has undoubted talent but has been inconsistent and under-performing. He has pace and skill and is too good to play reserves for too long.

Turning to Ronke, I don't think he is good enough and is staring down de-listing. I'm not sure on his contract situation though.

A lot of pundits had O'Brien linked to the Swans . We won't know, because he was gone before our 1st pick can up. Our list management team do a pretty good job of screening the draftees for attitude and competitiveness. Not many bad ones slip through of late, although ET would be one of them. Even aside from his off field issues, he wasn't putting in the physical efforts required to be an AFL player, despite his high skill level. I think we will be even more careful in the future.

Rowbottom and Warner are a couple of players we targeted and traded up for. It exemplifies what we look for when drafting a player.

You raise a really good question. Hayward and Ronke have only recently played in developing swans teams, often with lots of injuries. How would they go in an injury free strong swans team? We often criticize them for poor disposal etc but is that because they have poor skills, or because they have been under pressure in a poor team? Hayward, based on the last couple of years seems to have a pretty low ceiling, maybe 15 touches and a goal a game. But would this be the case in the current team? Hayward also has a long history of missing sets shots and poor disposal. Again would that change?
