Just wait until we lose a few games. People will be calling for Lewis Taylor and Sam Gray to save the season because the kids aren't ready yet.

I'm unsure what your measure is of naturally talented players. Is it skill level, footy smarts, some arbitrary measuring stick? And what excludes Rowbottom and now Blakey? They've both shown remarkable skill at different times, scored goals, assisted goals, passed the ball with precision on the inside and out, laid hard tackles etc. They are young players. So too are Stephens, Warner and McInerney.

I think there's room for them all and that is the great challenge we have. How to squeeze them all in, to get full games into the young brigade, and to keep them together for years to come.

I can only speak for myself, but I think we have A grade talent in the making with the kids. I'm optimistic about the direction our club is heading in, but think a little patience is needed as they will take time.

Hayward was on the bench on Saturday night while Wicks gathered kicks.

As for Blakey he has elite capability and is versatile. Blakey is an upgrade on a winger like a Issac Smith. Gives more power in the air than Issac and has similar running and kicking ability.

Wicks is not as versatile as Blakey, Florent, Stephen’s or Warner and will be vulnerable as a small forward unless there are many injuries or he’s playing at Papley level.

Anyway this is all off topic. This is supposed to be the v Crows thread. Where we extol the virtues of the Swans and and pick the @@@@ out of the Car Manufacturer, who no longer does so in Australia, Crows.

          But seriously.

This should be a corker of a match. The crows are coming off a wonderful win against the Cats. their pressure was manic and contributed to multiple turnovers. not only that, they were far too fast for Dad's Army. Crows did not allow Cats to play tempo footy. They manned up all the Cats players and made them kick long to a contest then knocked the ball to ground and their smalls cleaned up with huge pressure and speed in the contest. so many times I saw crows players just run away from their opponents. They moved the ball by hand and foot very well. But a lot by hand.

In contrast the Swans moved the ball mainly by foot. But three things were similar, the pressure at the contest, good ball use and speed. The Swans made Lions look incredibly slow. Our ball use was sublime. They were forced into mistakes because they had to move the ball far faster than they would have liked. Not only that, they were under constant pressure. the swans ball movement was the best I have seen from any side in about 10 years. I was in heaven watching it and have replayed it 3 times so far. But if the Crows bring the same kind of pressure, ours is going to have to come up a notch. not only that we are going to have to be strong in protecting the player with the ball.

bring it on. i can't wait. It should be an exciting match.

Wouldnt say that they have shown remarkable skills. Afew highlights here and there. Even Ronke and James Rose would have some highlights. Both are around the 30 game mark and yet to have a starring performance. They dont make it look easy like Warner, MCinerney do. Theres no wow-factor about them. Have said all i need to say about RB's midfield craft which i think is subpar. At least he has a position he can play in if we need depth.

Blakey will be behind others on the wing and his body is nowhere near able to play inside either. Anonymous as a forward and on top of that has lazy efforts. Dont see a role for him in the team at all and think competition for spots will be too tough to afford to play him and be patient with him. Hes gotta pull his finger out and make a position his own

If RB and Blakey are depth we’re premiership contenders very soon. They’re not depth, though.

Did anyone else get the sense at the recent presser with Longmire that he’s not happy with Buddy’s inclusion?

The cynic in me is screaming that this is a Harley driven membership pump for the start of the season. The swans have been quite open how popular Buddy is with fans and bringing people to the footy. We are obviously in a poor financial and membership position compared to recent years.

I suspect they are rushing him in to playing to drive our short term financial position. If he breaks down early in the season, at least the club would have banked some additional membership dollars. I’m guessing that not many memberships would be sold after the first few home games.

There is no vision of him at all in full team training recently and none of his half in the reserves practice match. I would prefer Buddy to build his fitness and help with a push later in the season (along with Naismith) hopefully deep in to September.

I hope I’m wrong, but but if Buddy has 25 games left in his career, I would like them spent in the next 2 years at the business end of each season pushing for a premiership.

Best not to respond to what look like troll posts.

Depth is something that we seem to suddenly have, start of last year I was worried but now :-) I suppose the growth last year in first and second year players plus the addition of three first year debutants last week and a healthy list.

Why do you constantly do this. you seem to take a grievance against certain players for little or no reason. Rowbottom was very good on the weekend and played on after hyper-extending a knee which shows courage as well. Blakey did his job and fought very hard on Saturday night. Yes, warner was also good and it just shows how good the mids are going to be with him and Rowbottom in their together. Out of a very positive night you manage to nitpick. You manage to downgrade players who were very good. I noticed you missing in the game day thread. Umm says it all really.

Ling next in line as a small/mid back, Stephens next in line as a mid

We've added more speed and kicking skill :-)

                        is that the same as

                        OUT: McLean, RB
                        IN: Buddy, McInerney

Who's going to be the sub? Surely not McLean or Hayward (again), which leaves Ling or Stephens. So I'd think Stephens

Great changes. Improved the side from last week. Crows will fight but no excuses to lose this with that 22.

Don’t do this to yourself. Next it’ll be Tom McCartin doesn’t take enough contested marks, or Tom Papley isn’t competitive, or Logan McDonald isn’t an accurate kick for goal, or Isaac Heeney can’t tackle or mark.

                            It’s boring. Just ignore it.
