What prevents you opening your heart to the these two potential great Swans players?
There is no animosity. They were our first two picks in a good draft. So i would like to see them succeed. They are good footballers but i see concerning signs in both of their games that i think they need to work on. I might need to be better at mincing my words. I can come off abrasive and derogatory of them and that is not my intention. I just call their flaws as i see them same as i have for Melican and Hayward and others. The difference is that RB and Blakey both seem to be very popular players on our list and so negative comments about them seem to trigger posters on here. Thats OK i can handle the feedback but i dont know why it causes so much angst. Our list is building very nicely and we are putting together quite a dangerous team and i happen to think that RB and Blakey might struggle to be part of that for a number of different reasons. Big deal. I see a lot of calls about players on here that i dont agree with but i dont lose my mind over them and i dont accuse the poster of being out of line for giving their opinions. The world will still be turning. Good luck to both of them, hope they both do well

Our lack of injuries is really causing some good selection headaches right now. If Rowbottom is fit, he comes straight back in. McInerney outplayed Blakey hands down yesterday so I’m happy to go with him and rest Nick. Interestingly, McInerney only played 66% game time yesterday so may’ve been a little underdone so this game and another week of training should allow even more contribution next week.

We play this team next week. But rest players in game 4 - shorter turn around time etc.The only player I would bring in is Rowbottom. But not sure for whom?

Cunningham or Hewett will get dusty when he gets forward. Who gets him in the middle?
And who clams down Shai and Jack Graham?
Anyways ... I think Horse will say no tagging for the first half... just play our style and see if it stacks up ! Buddy will struggle next week with Noah Balta and Grimes and Vlastuin. Maybe his role would be to stop them from getting grabs and getting the ball on the ground. We need small forwards to play exceptionally well to have any chance. Maybe Hayward to play forward defender on Jayden short? Or maybe Errol can do that job?

RB would offer more though probably
There's no probably about it! He would most definitely offer more! Impacts a game far more consistently than Blakey who has weeks of going missing between decent games. Really needs to lift or he could find himself out of the team pretty quickly considering the new found depth we now have in 2021! Perennial Longmire love child Hayward has found this out the hard way!

If RB is fit he needs to come straight back in as even though we played extremely well, we seemed to struggle in the midfield clearances IMO without looking at the stats. He is part of our future in the middle and Kennedy and Co are just caretakers this year before moving on.

I reckon Hayward was used in roles that he was never felt comfortable playing and over a year or two lost his kicking and then it was a slippery slope. His downfall is the result of our lack of depth at various positions in the years gone past. Now that we know what our best 22 looks like and their positions become cemented, he will be given a clear role to come in and play when it’s his opportunity.
But our depth which was an issue in 2018-19, now suddenly seems amazing... hats off to recruiters, developers and coaches.

Also I feel that there are only a small number of exceptional players who can have an instant impact but most would take time. Also certain positions are a bit easy to play than others. So let’s give these young players some time and confidence and they will show what they have.

It’s typical Brewongle - whilst the view (and my seats were fabulous top deck 3 rows up bang on the centre square) the facilities provided were way below par compared to the rest of the ground - sure its old but even the old MA Noble was better than this.

When Blakey taps the ball forward he does so when he is closely followed, rather than take possession and get caught. If you look closely he gains up to at least 50 metres. Better than getting pinged or a stoppage. You learn this stuff at Auskick and Junior level. Nothing to do with fumbling.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game, and actually found it encouraging that some of our senior players weren’t at their best, but we still had daylight between us and another young team on the up. The umpiring was the apogee of inconsistency, or possibly the nadir. Matthew Nicholls has always been officiously pedantic, but yesterday that was accompanied by awful decision making from all three umpires.
On a more distracting note, did anyone else at the game find the volume level of the completely unnecessary music after every goal unpleasant? I was reduced to putting earplugs in, and any chance of discussion with my companions after great pieces of play were impossible. Where we were sitting, until I managed to find the earplugs at the bottom of the pack, it was actually physically painful.

It is going to be interesting to see how we stack up - but I fear we may get a decent reality check - but I'm hopeful also we can give 'em a real scare.
Against the current premiers - a side that has won three of the last four premierships - I would be happy if we're leading at any point after half time.

The biggest takeout from the game is the overwhelming positive posts on this Forum.

I am a relative newcomer to the game, and find the comments from the wiser heads to be valuable to my enjoyment of the game, and my education on the good points of play. I understand disappointment in a poor performance (of the team or an individual), and I appreciate that our identification with a team/group is one way of 'belonging'.

I do hope the Forum does not revert to negative criticism when the inevitable happens and the team/individuals do not perform to our wishes in the future. It is much more enjoyable this week.

Oh, and wasn't the game enjoyable too!

One peripheral thing I noticed yesterday, was that Kenny wasn't in his spot, behind the goals at the Noble end. Nor did he lead the song. I wonder if he's okay?
