Impressive performances from Reid, Ollie, the Chad (whose pickup of a ground ball at almost full pace was a thing of beauty), Parker, Hickey and plenty of others. Particularly in the last quarter when our will to win was greater than theirs.

Thought our defence got smashed, particularly McCartin. Hooker too old and wily for him, but I’m sure lessons learnt.

Not sure how much of our performance was the 5 day break and how much the Bombers coaching, but I’d start giving the odd player a rest even with the 9 day break.
I thought we did magnificently well to hang on in the end. We played at 2pm in 30+ degree heat against the reigning premiers. Granted they played a couple of hours later, but played under the roof at Docklands, against a team that literally resembled witches hats. Yet we managed to run out the game very well. As you said, we fought back from 4 goals down as well - good stuff.

      Loving watching the replay,

Jobe Watson just said ‘Interpretate’ twice instead of interpret.

Also, so sweet to beat the bombers. Every time at the scg there is a loud bombers fan who chirps away all night. Comeuppance is the best revenge

I've just got home and watched a replay of the final quarter. There wasn't a single player on our team (and possibly the Bombers) who didn't have a few great moments during that final scramble, including all the youngsters.

That aged me about 30 years

Scrappy win but we wont get it right every time. Bank the 4 points and move on.

Damn about Heeney. We've had a flawless run with injuries so far so it was bound to come to an end , but its a shame. He was in AA form.

Not surprisingly Jmac, Gulden and the Chad were exceptional. Jmac's work rate off the ball is awesome and Gulden runs and runs. The Chad is just about ready to take the keys to the midfield. He and Mills , sensational duo we could see dominate for the next ten years ! Shades of Judd and Cousins in those two

I rest my case on Blakey. How many of these types of efforts from him do we have to see before we give someone else a try ?? Get Stephens in !

Next weeks changes Heeney (inj), Blakey out
          Stephens, Bell in

Agree on Blakey. His effort was ok but his disposal awful. If he had nailed 2 of those running goals he would have had a good game with not many stats. Stephens gets his chance next week. Like for like wing replacement.

I was not overly impressed with Bell. My changes would be Stephens for Blakey and I feel Hayward for Heeney would be the most like for like replacement.

Also agree on Blakey. His form’s almost there, but not quite, and he burnt a couple of golden chances. He wasn’t alone there, though.
I’m thinking Stephens, Hayward and Rowbottom all coming in, with one as medical sub, likely Hayward.
Like many others, I also am of the opinion that winning ugly, in such tight circumstances, was a great effort, and will do wonders for both education and confidence.

Is there another Bell I didn't see? This is harsh I know but he is not going to make it. Agree that if he is fit Stephens needs a go - pace and a good ball user. Would not be suprised if McDonald has a break.

My only difference would be to have Rowbottom as the Medical Sub and Hayward in Heeney's spot in the forward line. I think we need him there as I think Reid will be of more use as a 2nd ruck and spare defender. Best game I have seen him play last night. Did some great stuff at crucial times.

The Swans play beautiful football when they want to. I’ve been watching the boundary line crash and bash at the Swans for nearly 20 years. I’ve celebrated this style because it’s been highly successful.

Suddenly they show us all that they can play beautiful football with switches of play, speed, corridor football, play on and high scoring. I love it and just want more and more of that style. It’s French Champagne that style. I don’t want the Swans going back to working class beer football on the boundary.

Blakey deserves another chance. He butchered it a few times but stick with him, the boy will be a star.

Blakey just needs games under his belt. Rowbottom will come back in for henney, and I suspect Heywood will be the sub.

People earlier in the thread were wondering who our runner was (other than Brett Kirk). I think it's our physio, Damian Raper.

I know I shouldn't be suprised by AFL.COM journalists, but how was Reid not listed in the "best"? AFL.COM.AU Match Report
He and Parker were both BOG from my perspective on the couch.

I agree. I thought sam had his best game for a long time. He saved us many times in that last qtr with his strong marking.

I don't know how Lloyd gets a mention with the AFL writers. I thought he had a poor game. Very slow to make decisions, his kicking is below average and he doesnt like to tackle.
