In our game there were 49 free kicks given, in the Richmond/Adelaide game there were 31. So it's not as if they didn't give frees. I bet if you ask a Carlton supporter what they thought of the umpires it would be in the negative.

I agree with your sentiment that the fan is biased. But I think it was something like 6-7 of their goals came from free kicks.

Also look at how many free kicks the Bulldogs have to their advantage this year.

Even Longmire mentioned the free kicks in front of goal at half time apparently.....that's saying something......and yes, it sees to be the year of the Fairypup again.

What a wild ride!! Was helping my youngest with homework so i managed to catch each quarter with about an hour break in between!! It made the see-sawing nature of the game even more unpredictable!! Glass half full - these are the kinds of games we would've lost last year! In 2019 and 2020 our achilles heel is that we could only play good footy in 10/15 minute patches! And it cost us games! Now those patches are WINNING us games!! All part of the process on the way to consistent, four quarter performances!

So many wonderful individual games stood out to me. Isaac is a delight. A young man who smiles when he plays. Enjoys his football. Knows his worth as a member of the team and a dynamic talent!!

How often have we seen it over the last decade? Joey and Parks leaning down and saying, "Get on our shoulders boys!" We have become more of an even team across the field but when the going gets tough, these two pull their socks up and get to work!! Mills rapidly becoming the third amigo!!

Lance, Papley, Dawson, Cunningham, Lloyd, McInerney, Florent and Hayward all fantastic!! Stephens and Brand showed encouraging signs! Lots to like!! Lets beat those Aints!!

This was a critical win for our finals push. We played in patches and were helped by their best forward's inaccuracy in the final quarter but a win is a win! The way we stepped up our effort in that last quarter was admirable. Some good performances by our most experienced players combined with players who are now moving into the peak of their careers like Heeney, Mills and Ollie were the difference. I also thought that McInerney and Hayward were good contributors.

Our defence stood up against great pressure in the first half and we had a good spread of goalkickers by the end. However, a few of the younger players like Stephens and McLean struggled. If we can get to the bye in a reasonable position then we have some good talent to bring in to help out going forward.

I feel that this squad has the potential to develop into a premiership side over the next 2 to 3 years if we continue to improve the youngsters and have some luck. We have McDonald, Guilden, Campbell and Blakey as potential future stars to add to this team going forward. The team seems very tight knit. Look at the hugs etc they give each other post- game. That's a good sign to me!

                Some really good performances.

The defence looks more comfortable with that extra tall whether it’s Melican or Brand. Rampe and Dawson look better as the 3rd and 4th tall, rather than the 2nd and 3rd tall. Brand played up to the Bill Bellicheck operandi “do your job”. Small backs in Lloyd and Cunningham were tough and composed.

Kennedy looks in strong form. At the start of the year I thought he may start drifting out of the team as the younger players pushed through. In great form.

Mills looks great in midfield and is a very composed footballer. I would like the Swans to have spend some time off halfback when the defence is under the pump.

Franklin, Heeney and Papley are very dynamic up forward. It’s fantastic when the three of them are injury free and in form.

I would like TheBloods input into Stephens. He was ok but not breaking away from fringe status.

There were a few moments when Chad’s compusure concerned me. In the last quarter Chad takes the mark on the western wing in lots of space. J-Mac was running on his outside for the handball recieve. A simple give to J-Mac would have released J-Mac for two bounces and a deep forward entry. Instead Chad ignores J-Mac and tries to run past the man on the mark. He gets caught holding the ball. I think Chad is playing with great confidence, however the simple give was the team option.

J-Mac is a wonderfully composed footballer who can burn oppositions late in games with his run.

I think it’s time for McDonald to have another run. McLean is not bringing the ball to ground against the leagues best intercept markers. McDonald with his greater agility may bring the ball to ground better.

Most importantly- did anyone else notice just how good a hair day Dane was having? Outstanding!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Wow! Thanks for posting stevo! Was unaware of Riles' work but will follow closely from now on. Much better than the official AFL highlights packages because you don't have to put up with those annoying goals from opposition teams! GO BLOODS!

Cal Sinclair had a pretty good game today. You know what you get with Cal - nothing too amazing but at least whole hearted. He will definitely hold his own against average guys like Pittonet and it was a smart move to play him yesterday and give Hick a rest. It's great to have him as backup.

Overall we're travelling better than expected. For us to do some damage this year, it won't be on the back of our 3 years or less players but more on the emergence of Mills, Heeney, Dawson, McCartain etc as bona fide A graders.

Carlton got 4 goals from free kicks, we got one. The same usual ratio still exists. I still cannot get over the Eddie Betts free kick 100 meters from the ball.? Umpire said Cunningham had his arms around Betts. I have seen Franklin's opponent have their arms around him so many times in the past I have lost count. On the bright side, So If I am correct we play St Kilda and Hawthorn at home prior to the Bye?

McCartin had another pretty ordinary day on a tough opponent. It's interesting the leeway he gets on here, had Melican played that game most posters on here would be torching him.

FWIW I thought Brand played pretty well and should've had the job on McKay as he is more physically suited to the big boys

I think most defenders are going to find McKay a challenge for the next ten years or so. Stats wise nothing much between McCarten and Brand and most on here have mentioned that they felt Brand went alright.
Also need to keep in mind that Tom is 21 and only recently ( relatively speaking ) become a defender. It takes a year or two to learn the craft.

Don't get me wrong, I think Tom is going to be a player, and McKay already is a handful.

My point was that there are different sets of standards for different players on here. If Melican had played that game there'd be calls for his delisting. I also think Horse pulled the wrong reign, Brand was the better match up than Tom.

Bag the umpires all you want, but the Swans players gave away some ill-disciplined 50-metre penalties. 50-metre penalties don't usually happen with good discipline and self-control.
