At the risk of adding to the above hype, I think Warner will probably turn out to be the best player of McDonald, Campbell, Gulden and himself.

The other 3 should all be very good players but I think Warner has something special.

With the weather forecast if Warner is injured I'd just bring in Taylor. He has been pretty consistent in the reserves that I have seen.

I agree. I'd like to see the team settle a bit at this time of year. I'd keep Blakey in the reserves until he has produced a solid month of good football.

That suggests we need solid bodies who can hunt the ball and hold their feet. Taylor's skill limitations might not be as much of a handicap at they would be on a dry night. And an extra tall in defence may not be so valuable.
Hawthorn have been playing a tall forward line. It's not such a good tall forward line, but they are tall, including McEvoy and Reeves, a 208 cm ruckman. I think we should have Hawthorn covered, but need to prevent getting beaten for height, something clubs have done successfully against us this year. I would bring in Brand as a safe play. Maybe if we had Reid in the side we could use him as an emergency defender if things go wrong, but McDonald and Amartey would hardly know what to do in defence.

The other benefit of playing Brand is that he must have practiced a lot against the Hawthorn forwards and would know how best to play them. He would probably put in a good effort against his former club.

Hmm you are probably right Ludwig. They do have a tall forward line. And I guess if their big men turn out to be useless (due to weather) then we havent lost much. Brand was pretty good in the reserves too.

Minimal changes, Taylor been ripping it up in the ressies, obvious replacement for Warner. Brand in for Fox as we can't go in undersized against the Hawks forward line, too many marks inside 50 and undersized defender frees given away.

Unfortunately a couple of key ins for the Hawks this week - DANGER GAME!

Agree with Roadrunner, Taylor has been a cut above in the VFL. He is miles above Bell in the pecking order.

Gulden the new Boomer Harvey, was mighty impressive early in the year, talent and real footy smarts.

Just can't see it in Bell, Taylor at this stage offers much more at AFL level and it will be needed this week.

I rate Taylor a bit. I though that he was genuinely showing something in the back half of last season. I'd be happy to see him get a guernsey for the weekend.

A mate of mine, who watched some Swans pre-season training got on Chad far earlier than most. I asked him whom was training well in pre-season. He said “Chad” straight away. He said the young man was training at very high intensity and hitting in hard.

The deal for me was 100% done when Chad stormed out of the middle against Richmond, broke that tackle and slammed through that goal. It was class, confidence, intensity, strength breaking lines and skill. No other Swans midfielder could have kicked that goal.

We all think he has a way to travel. I’m just enjoying watching him play and I like to get just a little bit hyped.
Fair enough....it is easy to get hyped over him.

I'm going to take credit for discovering Chad. I took my daughter to the final December 2019 training session at Lakeside Oval—back in those smokey, pre-COVID, drought days (ah! memories). While we were excited to see Lance ripping it up in the match sim (he broke down a few weeks later), I remember seeing Warner doing some tackle bag work off to one side. I remember posting at the time on this forum that he looked like a beast who was fed raw meat (and exposed, Clockwork Orange-style, to images of Bulldogs midfielders), and marking him down as one to watch.

Great insight O'Reilly Boy! Ironic actually as his tackling is the only area he could improve in, still gets brushed off a little too easy! But he's a young lad and he will only get bigger and stronger! Seems he has taken that beast mentality and applied it to the ball instead! He has a fantastic attitude and a hunger to make every ball his own. He is going to be some player!

Congratulations on your call I remember your post simply because of the vivid description .
It’s interesting that some on here mention his speed but I remember thinking at the time and Google bears this out that he was a potential contested beast that would eventually be a top class inside mid. He does appear to have adapted to , or been reassigned to more of an attacking midfielder role . Whatever the case he is certainly an exciting addition to the mix and I look forward to many years of highlights . Only cost us pick 39 so as far as I am concerned already proving value for money.
Although having said that we did pick up a player a few years back at 43 who turned out alright and a current player at 40 who has been a star as well. A credit to our list management teams ability to identify potential that others overlook.

Good call on Brand. For me, it's:

                                Out: Fox, Warner (managed/?injured)

                                In: Brand, Taylor.
