I think a lot of the team can improve in their tackling - we still struggle to stick a lot of tackles we should (will come in time). I don't think its the only area he can improve in however - his use of the footy needs some work too, in particular by foot - but that will improve over time too, especially as he learns to recognise when he has more time available than he thinks (i.e. learns to focus a bit better after the intense breaking the lines phase) and can better use it then he sometimes does.

It seems to me that over the last 2-3 weeks the midfielders especially Joey Kennedy and Luke Parker are making a conscious effort to go forward and kick goals and spread the opposition midfielders a bit. This is certainly a tactic to expose some of the opposition midfielders who may not be good defenders. Lets see what happens against Hawks but it would be good to see all the midfielders put their hand up for a goal a match. They are all capable - Parker, Kennedy, Warner, McInerney, Florent, Rowbottom.
Would like to see Blakey do the same in the 2s for a few more weeks - Get 15 - 20 disposals, get some contested marks and then kick 1 - 2 goals a match on a consistent basis. He is certainly capable of that and that should be his target.Comment

Very true!! I think he gets the blood pumping once he gets the ball and sometimes a little too much of it goes to his head heh... I look forward to seeing what he and Rowbottom can do after the bye! I think it has come at the right time for them and others, we haven't seen them at their best over the last month! But I think they have the potential to be a very good midfield pair!! They balance out each other's strengths and weaknesses quite well I reckonI think a lot of the team can improve in their tackling - we still struggle to stick a lot of tackles we should (will come in time). The weather forecast for Friday is now looking far more palatable. It's changed from "rain - 5-10mm" to "clearing shower <1mm".
On that basis, I'm in the camp that would like to see Brand come in to provide some extra help in the backline. I'm not optimistic it will happen, though.Comment

We're too short against the tall forward lines, give away too many frees for holding jumpers, arms around etc, frees that lead to cheap goals :-(The weather forecast for Friday is now looking far more palatable. It's changed from "rain - 5-10mm" to "clearing shower <1mm".

I always laugh we a see a free kick for arms around. I believe since Buddy has been at the Swans, I have seen 100 times both arms around him and no free kick paid. Free kicks in front of goal depends on which way the wind is blowing!!Comment

I remember well the news report after the first time that the Giants beat the Swans, on that storm interrupted round 1 game out at Homebush. There was a photo accompanying the article, which showed Buddy trying to lead towards the ball but with Phil Davis's arms wrapped tightly around his body. The caption to the photo was (something like) "Buddy well held by Davis".Comment

I'd be interested to see the record of opposition key forwards at the SCG in night games. Purely from a patchy memory, I feel like it's often smaller forwards and midfielders who kick goals against us.
Part of this is the redundancy of the CHF position, and also the ground is very dewy on even a dry night.
From memory, its players like Fantasia, Nathan Jones, Coniglio etc who have kicked 3-4 goals, not the big boys.
This is a long way of saying, I don't think we need to worry too much about height in a night game at home. So I'm not sold on Brand coming in.Comment

I may have captioned the same photo: Buddy, not a good mud runner? It's the height of McEvoy that's a worry. As we know, he's a very good mark and kick for goal. Otherwise, it's Hawthorn's small forwards that pose the greatest danger. Breust we know about, but Dylan Moore and 1st year player Tyler Brockman are dangerous goal kickers. And of course it's the Hawks version of The Chad who needs minding drifting in from the midfield. We haven't been good this year picking up midfielders drifting forward into open spaces. The coaches would be going through the videos to locate the problems, but I just assume it happens with the lack of experience going through our midfield these days and is one of the reasons why young teams like the Swans have trouble making an impact in September. The weather forecast for Friday is now looking far more palatable. Tex Walker has gotten hold of us a few times there with his beautiful, long kicking. Cameron while at GWS also has performed well at the SCG.I'd be interested to see the record of opposition key forwards at the SCG in night games. Tex has kicked 2 bags of 4 & 5 under lights at the SCG, but one of those was 2012.
I still think it's rare that a key forward gets the better of us, under lights, at home.Comment
