Papley is there to play the game, not abuse umpires. In the words of Captain Lee “I don’t give damn” if Papley is frustrated with umpiring.

What example does Papley set for young players when he gets so frustrated with umpires that he gives away free kicks for umpiring abuse.

Time for coaches to take a stand. It’s now happened twice. I think Papley should be given two weeks in the reserves to sort this out.
I'll walk naked backwards to bourke if Papley gets a fortnight in reserves because of that .....

I am no apologist for abuse - but even at the pitifully low levels of football (not afl football) that I played during school and a little at uni, some days the world does feel like its against you. We know Papley is an 'on the edge' player - it is what makes him the quality player he is. He simply expressed what I reckon most might have been thinking tonight, and it does happen. If he wasn't a bit of a hot head, then he'd be a 10th of the player he is - its part of what makes him tick.

The issue was the umpire in question always has to make it all about 'him' - always has and always will. Most umpires would of shrugged it off and got on with it.

If im completely honest, i am as one eyed as they get but.... The umpiring was biased (10-26) even the numbers dont do it justice thats not factoring in the ones that were missed or just not paid. Chamberlain is a joke of a human, he just cant go about his JOB without making it about him & Umpire 26 was equally as bad. Some might not think umpiring can change a game to the tune of 38 points but i've played alot of footy and when the umpiring is clearly biased like tonight it has compounding effects that can really change the way a team plays. Longmire should really take a stand, it has been going on too long.
100% bennyfabulous. People underrate the effect of bad umpriring on a team. It is dispiriting and eventually you tread on eggshells. Show me a game with reverse umpiring statistics where the team has won.

Fully agree- he is one of the players who should have been dropped- has been a passenger for several Wicks!

I thought JMac tried hard and Amartey went ok. Shame he missed that first shot on goal. Still in shock- how did this happen?

And he did a great tackle from all angles with arms around both biceps and it was deemed too high by Chamberlain.

That non out of bounds by Chamberlain was for me the worst decision all night. We already had 2 dubious ones against us for not making an effort to keep the ball in play.

Not getting enough attention are you poor didums.

Wicks deserves criticism as he has been getting from many. His form is down and if someone stands up tomorrow, may well lose his spot.

I won't even bother with your other crusade - we all know your 'from high' opinion is what it is.

Our midfield as a collective stunk tonight, that is all that needs to be said - got collectively enough of the ball, but did jack all with it, and spent large chunks of the night chasing shadows (in particular in the first half, accountability across the midfield group was awful).

The player in question is not at a point in his career where he is going to change that fact individually, and was no better nor worse then the rest of the midfield brigade. But as always, you've only got a one track mind for criticism.

That was the moment I turned the TV off. But after Papley doing what we all wanted to do, you just knew he would take every opportunity to use the 'no lube' option, and that was the pure icing on the cake!

                    I get it.

Papley needs to get back on his feet and chase again. While he abuses the umpires he drops concentration and drops chasing intensity.

It’s possible that if Papley chased instead of abusing an umpire he may have been able to put pressure on and force a turnover. Maybe that potential turnover could have led to a goal and a comeback. We’ll never know, however I’m miffed that so many posters are supportive of Papley’s umpiring abuse penalty.

No need to make it personal , I havent talked about either all week out of respect to all on here who did not appreciate it. But this is the match thread isn't it so whats wrong with discussing the players who were part of the match ? Of course im not going to criticise the rest of our midfield , Jpk Parker and Mills have been in our best players this year, one off match is understandable

Your straying into a very magical 'what if' world with your overall comment..... a lot of 'coulda woulda shoulda' in there!

We haven't played anyone that unfit since Derek Kickett's last season. He makes Stuey Dew look thin.

And there we have it - playing it safe and straight back to the old 'one rule for some, one rule for others'..... as predictable as Ray's obsession with being centre of attention.

Why are we playing Hewett in the backline? I suspect as a lockdown on a small forward, but he is slow, plays within a 5 metre circle and gives absolutely no run out of the backline. As I have said many times his only value is as a run with player. Should have been on Mitchell from the start.

                                We are better than this-
This pretty much sums it up for me. We were tired and the bye can't come quick enough, so our skills were down but I still think we were up for a scrap in the first quarter and had the umpiring been fair, we still could have won ugly like last week but.....it is mentally draining to be constantly and obviously shafted by poor/biased officiating and it just compounds tiredness and skill errors.

Playing a fresh Hawthorn.....who were given even more momentum from said officiating and the results are to be expected but I don't attest to the theory that 'we would have lost even if the umpiring was better'.....26-10 is a right royal shafting. It's about time the Swans 'had a coffee' with Gil.
