That one was hard to miss. However the free against Hickey after English wrapped his arms around him, then got him high, was pretty aggravating. I don’t know if the umpires aren’t able to train much due to Covid, or if it’s the AFL’s endless tweaking of rules, or a combination of both, but the umpiring has been poor across the board this season. Glaring frees are missed in every game, or given in a totally random way. It’s frustrating for everyone, and probably the umps themselves when they review their performances.Comment

"Nige"'s greatest moment came when he mistook Aaron Bruce for JUH. Good Lord...
And the complete disregard for some of the blatant throwing the Dogs engaged in was mind-boggling as well.Comment

This is a good question and I would be fascinated to know the answer. Not sure that no other club gets away with the things they do but they do get away with stuff and they do get a very favourable free kick differential. The hypothesis has been put forward that it is because they are first to the ball more often than not.All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

I'm a big Bont fan, but I felt like he had very little impact on yesterday's game (nws the commentator love as you note).

Was yesterday Nige's first game? We normally give first-gamers (players that is) a bit of leeway, a bit of time to find their feet. So maybe this
courtesy could be extended to commentators as well. Who knows, Nige may well turn into the next Luke Darcy, or the next Jobe Watson.Comment
-
Who said anything about abusing him? Stop putting words in peoples mouths. One can make their point without being abusive. A comment to the effect of 'your commentary was ordinary' coupled with 'you sounded like you were barracking for the Bulldogs' is hardly going to have Nige going for the razor blades.Comment

Surely you can see the hypocrisy of your post? Chastising Sandrevan for encouraging people to leave negative comments on Twitter and then throwing in a slur about "assuming you actually have one." Shot yourself in the foot there.Comment

Why don’t we try this.
Can everyone answer the following questions:
1) Is there one umpire you respect?
2) Is there one commentator you enjoy listening to?
If you can’t answer the above questions your probably being unrealistic in your expectations of umpires and commentators.
If you answer the above questions with a bile of abuse then you are graduating to keyboard warrior.Comment

No, he doesn't qualify for a 'honeymoon' period. He's been commentating and hosting the VFL telecasts down here for a few years now and has also been involved with AFLW commentary and hosting duties. He has done AFL commentary on Melbourne based games in the past few seasons, I think mainly because of Covid restrictions where some commentators may have been stuck in other states at times. As far as the AFL goes, he seems to be like a 'stand in when needed' commentator.....but I suspect he will be a more regular participant whilst there are more games played in Victoria. So he has no excuses for his biased commentary on Sunday.Comment

Is the part in bold really necessarily? Your having a go at others for taking cheap 'keyboard warrior' shots, but then taking what could be interpreted as a pretty cheap shot in the process (who knows what the employment circumstance of said poster is - its entirely irrelevant anyway). Just seems entirely unnecessary and unhelpful.
And to be honest - Nige was nauseating yesterday. But as you suggest, he was just doing his job. Doesn't mean feedback shouldn't be provided - but I'd suggest there are more appropriate ways to do so then starting a twitter war.
yes he tells us how ti treat others and then we have the bolder part ..is there some tule about worthiness to have an opinion and possibly a better one if one doesn’t have employment ..look at commentator Nige he’s employed and we know why we think of how he expresses himself

Well first is to congratulate the Swans on a great victory!
Free kick balance sheet was not in our favor and against the Dogs in Victoria will probably never be a level playing field. Disappointing in the 21 century! (look above and smile)
Gulden has proven to be so much more that I had hoped from all the write up over the years. Well do and keep up the work!
Joined the Armarty Party for sure!!
Hope we can fit Chad into the side..
Reid will have to do a lot to push one out..
Enjoying the moment
