True, but I believe that because of the efforts of the whole team, it allowed Dawson to become so dangerous. Blakey playing well down back allows for his positional change. With the whole team contributing and executing the game plan, it allow players to play with confidence which leads to stand out performances such as Dawson and McCartin against the Dogs.

I'm confident if we can continue to play with the same effort we will start to see a lot more of these types of performances from many of our players.

      Yes

But we did not lose clearances , we were thrashed in clearances , lost overall clearances by 20 and centre clearances by 12 , that is conceding way too much possession and territory

Our defence was great against the Dogs , Richmond's also had a rock solid defence last 3-4 yrs but put up those kinds of numbers in a final and you better hope our defenders have their best ever games or we'll cop it , how soon we forget what a shambles our back six was against port adelaide not 3 weeks ago ,

Im not calling for any of the mids heads im saying they need to lift and they do ,nothing Longmire wouldn't have told them in the review

It wasn’t just clearances (where we were annihilated). We also lost inside 50s 52-47 and contested possessions 142-136.

I said it before, our on-ball brigade is high quality but too slow. Individually, they're all top notch players, but as a group they can't stop anyone who has a step on them. I'm not sure if we can find a tactical solution, or we have to change some personnel. We should at least try to get one speedy midfielder at the defensive side of our stoppages.

We could play Papley and Wicks outside the centre square at centre bounces to contain breakaways , but not McInerney, who is quick but not a good tackler.

Not much downside to this, sounds like a plan to me.

I think a lot of it depends on which GWS shows up. The good one or the bad one. Except for two games, we have been very consistent
this year. In those "consistent form" games we are 10-and-4. In those four losses (GWS, Freo, Melbourne & Port) we were only one or
two goals off the pace. The GC & Hawthorn games were the outliers, and to only have two of them in 16 outings so far this year is pretty
good. We should win, but if the good GWS shows up it's going to be tough.

Tom Harley has apparently confirmed the day and time of our match with GWS remains the same albeit the venue is TBA: GWS Giants, Sydney Swans, Western Bulldogs to leave Melbourne ASAP to avoid COVID outbreak (afl.com.au).

I can't believe some people still refer to this game as the Battle of the Bridge. Dumbest, most inappropriate name. Which Bridge are they even referencing and why? Apparently it's meant to be a reference to the Anzac Bridge and connotes an east-west divide. I don't buy it and I don't like it. I don't know why our club countenances it.

I don't think our club does. They always refer to it as the Sydney Derby. I'm not even sure I've heard the Giants refer to this ludicrous name. I think it's just some in the media.

I suspect the name - suggested by Sheedy - was an attempt to redraw the "boundaries" of the Swans' and Giants' supporter territories pretty much in the city centre. After all, it takes - what 20 minutes or so to walk from the city end of the Anzac Bridge to the CBD. If you dawdle.

Latest news is that we are going to play at Metricon on Sunday evening as the back half of a double header after the Essendon-North game. Potentially it could be the 4th game played at the ground over the weekend.

But we're now at the stage of the AFL trying to keep the whole season alive, and do what can be done to reunite families in the best possible circumstances, so off we go.

And I'm sure Longmire is quietly using it as a chance to drill in the 'play anyone, anywhere, anytime' mantra.
I was enjoying the buzz and support from the South Melbourne supporters and I think that must have been worth quite a bit to the team ..they’re certainly going to miss that buzz and it’s value to the performance

The more I think about it, the more I reckon moving to QLD and into the warm is a huge disadvantage for us over GWS. We have much better support in Victoria and GWS hate the cold.

Not that there is anything they could really do about it though (it’s not like there would have been crowds in Victoria anyway).

It is certainly a roll-with-the-punches situation (for supporters and players alike).

Yeah I know. Anywhere, anytime, anyone needs to be the mantra for sure.

No Changes. Rowbottom, Stephens and Sinclair on the extended bench now that the game has been moved to Sunday night.
