He's proving to be an all around player. Having watched him at u18 level (and in particular how easily and emphatically he stepped up from u16 to u18 level) I'm not surprised that he's come in and made an immediate impact. But I've been surprised by some aspects of his play - such as his ability to take an overhead, contested mark, and the leap he showed last week to spoil Bruce. I also didn't appreciate just how good his kicking really is.

One small - but critically important in the context of the game at the time - thing I enjoyed yesterday was McInerney's decisiveness in going for goal in the second quarter (his first goal). Last week he had a relatively straightforward kick for goal on the run but was caught in two minds and landed up neither kicking the goal nor hitting Buddy on the lead. This week - further out - he also had hit-up options (including Buddy in some space) but made a quick decision and executed. It would have been just as fine had he hit a player on the lead. I guess it was just good to see him not waver. It's great to see small steps in young players' development.

Reckon our slow start worked in our favour , they came ready for a contested scrap like it always is with those flogs , then we turned the game into a faster and open game and killed them on the outside . They had no answers for our run and use of the corridor

If we played like that from the start , would of been easier to plan and adapt against

One of the great wins in the history of the South Melbourne/Sydney Football Club

To have 3 players being withdrawn before the game and 3 new players come in (little wonder we were flat in the first quarter and a half of last night's game). 35 points down halfway through second quarter and to kick 11 goals in second half including nine straight between 15 minute mark of 2nd quarter and 3/4 time. It was an awesome win.

Jon Ralph says that Mills and Cunningham will be unavailable this weekend, too. In iso for 14 days from last Tuesday.

Do they have to sit by themselves in a hotel room for the duration, or are they allowed to get outside and train (even if on their own)?

Question directed generally towards the ether, rather than to you specifically.

If they can't do any training, they probably will miss more than just the two matches.

Behind the scenes of the Sydney Derby's last-minute line-up changes

A bit of an insight into what happened before the game yesterday.

It was great to see our Heritage jumper in use again in such a magnificent win!

And I know we don't like to praise GWS too much here but did anyone else think the jumper they wore yesterday is a vast improvement on their usual strip?

Someone needs to pay for a penthouse upgrade or an entire floor with a cordoned off personal exercise space!

No matter what, they will be able to do some exercise - I’m sure the fitness staff could dream up some routines. I also think there is enough room in the 22 to play them back into the squad. Two weeks off for an uninjured, and previously fully fit, player won’t cause too many concerns. They might even benefit from the rest!

Great point out Liz - I thought exactly the same thing about McInerney when it happened, remembering what had happened the week before - those moments of growth are always fantastic. But one senses these footballing Cygnets are growing up a hell of a lot quicker then any of us imagined - either that or they are going to have enormously high ceilings in terms of their ability.

As for young Errol - it is simple. He has all the attributes to be a superstar.

And to think we have Campbell as well to look forward to as well - a different sort of player, but one rated just as highly at junior levels, and also with a mark of class as well.

Does anyone know which Swans staff members are involved in the Covid quarantine order?

Longmire said they were now working with a skeleton staff lineup (can’t remember his exact words) and they had no fitness staff at all. It wasn’t clear to me if he was saying this was a result of the quarantine order or perhaps as well as that plus only a limited number of staff went away with them in first place.

I didn’t see McVeigh in photos yesterday. Did others see him? Does anyone know if any coaching staff are now in quarantine?

I saw Macca at halftime in the rooms. I believe our entire high performance team has been wiped out.

According to the Hun the rules for a tier 2 exposure site are way stricter in QLD than VIC. In VIC you just need a negative test, in QLD it’s up to 14 days.

Reckon some lobbying going on behind the scenes.

                              Thanks Markw.

I was quite moved by Longmire’s tribute to the players AND to the staff for the way they have responded to the Covid challenges they’ve faced over the last four weeks.

We (or at least I) tend to focus on the players. Nobody more than John knows how important the staff are to our performances.

I hope Longmire himself stays well!

How many negative tests can they have. Apparently both sides had tested negative twice since Wednesday.
