Maltopia, I apolgize- meant no offence to James B. It was merely a nickname and I won’t use it in future.
I agree he tries very hard and he does have a lot of enthusiasm. I also was happy that he has had a run of a few games. But realistically, a forward’s role is either to score goals or to assist. From what I’ve seen, he falls a bit short.
That’s all. Very happy to be proven wrong, as I want the best for all our Swannies.Comment

Err, nicknames are an Aussie tradition. I agree disparaging nicknames are undesirable, so yes McHack was unfair but 'Ding Dong' is classic Aussie nicknaming because his name is 'Bell'. I don't believe that's disgraceful at all. So let's at least keep the pontificating on forum morals sensible.
Roadrunner has explained that he meant the former which is great, but one can’t tell if others using Ding Dong are being nasty, and that is how we get racism etc creating in.
If James was to hear it, does he laugh thinking it is a reference to Bell, or are they also calling him stupid on the sly? Better to avoid nicknames like that altogether.Comment

You could be accused of the same
Do you think James Bell would like to hear that name being bandied around by someone nearby ..for example if you wanted to catch his attention would you call him that..do You think his teammates would appreciate your nickname for him ..
Im not sure what nickname they use for him but I’m sure they wouldn’t find that one an option that didn’t sound juvenile
Just a different opinion to yoursComment

Maybe we can start a seperate thread discussing what nicknames are acceptable for us to use for Sydney players ?
I can’t believe how something as innocuous has triggered such emotional responses.
I feel terrible now because I worked with someone years ago called Dave Bell and we used to call him Ding Dong , Donger and Dinner among other things I assume he is now suffering from delayed PTSD.
I guarantee that the % of people who interpret the use of the nickname Ding Dong in association with a person with the surname Bell as an offensive slight on their intelligence would be negligible.
To be honest the last time I heard someone call anyone a Ding Dong was by my dear departed mum 40 years ago and it was used affectionately not disparagingly or in a hurtful manner.
Rant over can we get back to the football now?
With the Quarantine period still in effect I find it very hard to think who you would drop based on performance alone. It seems that everyone is doing their designated job , the chemistry and bond appears strong and as such why tinker with a winning formula?
However it may be that the match committee look to manage a player or two in which case I wouldn’t mind seeing Logan have another run.Comment

Whenever I hear the name Bell, I can't help but think of John Bell, Northern Ireland's greatest scientist, the author of the famous Bell's Theorem, a brilliant work that has become foundational in quantum mechanics.
So I always find a positive ring to the name Bell, even when he plays poorly. Maybe James Bell should quit football and become a physicist.Comment

Only change would be one of the 2 that doubled up to go out given they played 2 games and we live in a world where sports scientists reign.Comment

I think both Ding-Dong and Ring-a-ding are unkind nicknames which suggest he is stupid and possibly have a racist tinge to them (not intended I'm sure). So far as we know those nicknames are not used by anyone else, and I think they are better avoided.
'Belly' is definitely a nickname I have heard spoken by many of the players. However, James Bell himself confessed, in his interview on Yokayi Footy, that he got the nickname 'Dunnybrush' from one time when he grew out his hair and it grew straight up which he says he now very much regrets. Unkind but recognised but with a bit of a story to it and not made up by us.All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment
