Must admit I had same thought but more likely form / structural reasons.

My simple mind said play Campbell because he can play forward, left wing (if Dawson goes inside mid) and half back. Gives the team better versatility and skills.
      So, I'd say two things.

One, look at it through the structural argument I tossed around for debate in here: Swans chat Finals 22 - with a twist

Longmire has some roles he likes to see fulfilled. Whether I got that all right isn't the point. I think he approaches the structure roughly like that. Bell's is the pressure forward, who can sacrifice elements of his own game, do a defensive job, and push up to contests. And he thinks Campbell hasn't quite shown he can do that yet, based on his last two weeks.

I also think it's as simple as this. There's no doubt Campbell will be the better footballer. But right now, he's a bit light, a bit down on fitness and touch, and lacking an obvious role in the team. And if you look at his year objectively , he had two good games - Adelaide and Essendon. The others he showed a bit, but no more. As I said before, he's a first year player, so that's ok. But Horse wants a job done this week and reckons Bell can cover the ground and apply himself with discipline to do it.

You're right about what Campbell potentially offers, but we'll see that more fully in the years to come.

I think the comments around bigger, more mature body and ability to gut run are central to it. I fancy we think we can work hard all day and run them off their feet. Bell probably offers more in that circumstance then Campbell at this point in his career.

And his form and performing his role was fantastic for a big block of weeks that went a long way to helping us get hear whilst others were out ..he only dropped off a little in the last week coinciding with giving others a chance ..
Longmire actually preempted the players he was looking to possibly bring in last night on afl360 and he mentioned Warner , Stephens and Bell
On Bell I rate him highly and think he’ll be here far longer than the end of the year some others predict for him and Longmire mentioned his excellent year along with Warner’s early year form before the stress fractures
I’ve always defended Bell ..he has future leadership qualities also as he develops confidence that he belongs and I think that part has developed this year as well as more gane time awareness which is coming along too
He’ll lay plenty of pressure on Whitfield and some good hits and hopefully add a few offensive plays also which he was doing .

Well I'll be buttered on both sides. I don't think too many had Bell in the frame, let alone picking up Whitfield, one of the smartest, game savvy players in the comp. I think Campbell would be more likely to have important moments than Bell and as mentioned is far more versatile. Campbell is more likely to mix it up in close than Bell.

Bell last played in Round 20 against Essendon. Stats: 1 kick, 3 handpasses, 1 mark, 1 tackle. Worst rated Swans player on the day.

Its the battle of the horrible. Bell Vs GWS's Reid. Both teams weaker for the selections. Hopefully they play on each other and no one kicks it to them.

I think the issue with bell is his ceiling may not be high enough over time to establish a permanent spot in the team. He has improved this year and had some good qualities, but wonder if he will ever be able to consistently influence enough to hold down a permanent position, and may well be squeezed out if we continue to progress up the ladder.

But he will certainly still be here next year, that I don't think is in doubt.

Your post gives me great confidence for Saturday. I would have been far more worried had there been even a slither of positivity in it

Actually, I think that by playing a certain amount of games this year, he triggered a clause in his contract, to continue on next year. So, well done, James.

I took $2.65 on GWS early in the week, happy with my bet but not happy we'll be up against it with Stevic making all the 50/50 calls for GWS. A big handicap

Even if he didn't he is way in front of several others comfortably I would of thought (ie in particular those in the vfl squad with AFL experience that haven't got near the senior squad this year). He deserves more time to continue to develop that is for sure.

If 80% of the centre square ball ups can have Hickey, Papley, Parker and Chad contesting then I think we can win a fair bit at the source.

After the Swans have won possession they must attack the corridor and switch the ball. We are not big enough with Kennedy and Mills out to win a boundary line contested battle game.

Keep attacking the corridor come what may.
