McCartins play will be more attacking and entertaining than Melican as a fan I want more attacking and entertaining play like 2021.

Nobody can argue conclusively about Melican’s defensive game after Jesse Hogan of all players destroyed him.
I can see your point, BS. However, Melican is the encumbant in that position so most likely will get the first chance at it. PMc is a good option but unproven in that position at senior AFL level. Unless he stars in the 2 upcoming trial games, he may need to force his way in via good form in the Reserves. However, I am happy to be proven wrong on this.

I reckon we wait and see what happens in the two trial games. Pyke noted yesterday that 37 players are travelling down to Albury and they'll all get some game time, with high rotations. So we'll get a better idea of the relative merits of PMac and Melican after watching them both in the two matches.

Andrew Wu in the SMH reported 36 to 40 players will be featuring. Liz, where did you hear Pyke's statement of 37? If that is the case, there could be a few injuries we don't know about.. i'd guess the following won't be in action: Mills, Naismith, Rowbottom, Sheather and Amartey, who have all had injuries reported. That would still be 39! Maybe they won't play Lance, in which case... 38! From there, could be anyone!! The squads will be announced tonight, and i am looking forward to seeing which new names will make appearances!

I would expect all the draftees will get a run. This appears what we normally do each season. Is this on You Tube live? I am in Thailand at the moment and catching up with Ludwig next week to watch the North game.

Andrew Wu also said that Sam Reid is competing for the tall defender spot with Paddy McCartin and Melican.

I’m backing McCartin over Reid as well. Reid’s kicking is not at the level the Swans need for the counter attacking game plan.

I seriously hope the Swand play and expand on the exciting ball movement football of 2021.

It’s was so good to watch.

I would accept a few extra losses for them not to go back to the boundary line crash and bash football.

I’m sure most spectators would agree on the above point.

You can get it on Watch AFL. If you are not normally living OS?you have the option of a weekly fee and cancel before renewing. I think you might also get a fee trial. Not sure. Go to Watch AFL to find out. It is not on You Tube as Kayo are telecasting.

It was in a video update emailed to members yesterday. Normally they just give members slightly earlier access to the odd bit of material and then publish it on the website. I've just looked, and it's not there yet, but I suspect it will appear some time today.

Edit: Just went back and looked at the email, and it's actually labelled as a Premiership Club update. So maybe it won't be made available to the public via the website. It's not especially illuminating. Just the normal vague update on how pre-season training has been going and the plans for the practice games. I'll listen again and see if there seems to be anything else worthy of the label "news" contained in it.

One vaguely interesting thing that I've just noticed, is that we're due to play VFL practice matches against the Giants on the 6th and 19th of March. Since we're also playing a pre-season match against North on the 6th, I'd assume that the team picked to play North, would be pretty close to our round one team; rather than an extended squad.

Having just listened again to the Pyke video, he kinda confirms that. They'll use tomorrow's game against GWS to give lots of players a bit of match time, and then use the game against North as more of a dress rehearsal for round 1, with rotations closer to those they'll experience once the season proper gets under way.

Something else Pyke says - and I'm not sure if I knew this already - is that they will be playing six "quarters" against GWS tomorrow. The younger guys (who are considered to be part of the development squad) will feature more heavily after "three quarter time".

I seem to recall us playing six "quarters" against GWS in a practice game a year or two ago. But the telecast ended after the end of the fourth "quarter". So we may not get to see the whole thing via Kayo tomorrow.

This may just be some weird thing the two clubs have agreed between them. I watched a bit of the Carlton Saints game this morning (testing out my Kayo subscription) and they certainly finished after the normal four quarters.

Yes, I remember the telecast ending after four quarters, and then it being unclear for a while, whether an extra couple of quarters were actually played.

Anyone going to be at the Albury game? If it's six "quarters" we'll need to know what happened post Kayo

I'm feeling positive about Paddy McCartin. If he does get that 2nd KPD role, we still have Reid, Gould, and O'Connor in reserve, even without considering Melican. If Melican does not become a regular in our defence this year, then I think he will be traded. He becomes a free agent in 2023.

Can other people who watch training confirm this account?

I may need to switch Amartey for Ladhams if this feedback is confirmed by multiple training spectators.
Just for you BS......Alan Pease here. I have noticed in the training videos that Ladham's 'body language' is a bit of a worry. He doesn't seem naturally happy and relaxed like the other players. Sure, he is under pressure to prove himself and it takes awhile to settle in at a new club but I have not been too impressed with what I've witnessed from the few bits of training I've seen.

The key here is 'the few bits of training I've seen'. There's not really a lot to go on, so I might be way off in my assessment.

NB: This is not a prediction that he is going to leave. I'm not that good this early.......but if he's not in the team in Round 1, there might be cause for some concern re; the validity of his recruitment.

                            Very early days though.

You can tell a lot from these athletes body language . I said this last year and got torn to shreds for it ,

Opponents know it too , they see their opponent looking like he 'd rather be in Phuket and they know they have the edge over them

Not a good sign if he isnt looking plugged in at training
