Still, comparisons are always interesting. Changing football codes, Manchester City have just signed a very promising 21-year old Norwegian player called Haaland who is currently playing in Germany. He will be on A$39 million per year on a long-term contract. Dusty is a bargain in comparison.
Less Russian oligarth money in those leagues now LOL

We have two first rounders this year, one will be Melbourne's highly likely pick 19. Brisbane probably have a F/S, Marcus Ashcroft's son touted as a possible pick 1 so their first rounder will be up for "auction". wouldn't mind us angling for it to get three late firsts this year to add to our developing list.

Funny how Robbo on 360 said "How does a Sydney team fit in a million plus into their salary cap?..."

So how does a Melbourne team do it then, or more to the point, how does Richmond do it lol

Martin's best years are behind him, his head is not in the right place and he gets paid $1M plus. My guess is if he really wants to move
to Sydney he'll end up at GWS traded for one of their guys who wants to "go home". We should stick to our current player development
        plans.

Martin might be appealing in 2 years time as a FA when his RFC contract expires. By then we can gauge his form/worth $$$ against where we are with our list profile in our premiership quest. Won't cost us any trades. It will be interesting however, the reactions If we've managed to win a flag in next 2 years & Martin expresses desire to come to us as a 33yo FA.

I suspect Hardwick is conditioning RFC supporters the likely prospect of Martin moving on. The question is whether it will be in the next 2 years? He will have 2 Sydney teams to choose from who will both be on upward trajectories compared to RFC.

That is an admission Sydney (Northen) teams have to pay overs to retain players and re-opens the COLA debate.

Martin has some GWS connection . He nearly moved there some time ago. We on the other hand are always in limelight regards to trading due to our history with a Buddy.

If Dusty wants to come to Swans, then watch out we could lose too much over a period of time. They will ask for 2 first rounders and a readymade player Ala Chad Warner with their midfield lacking depth. That would be too much to give.

And the chances that the trade will get us a premiership is ridiculously lower as some pointed out that we would need to raring to go in 2024-2025

While it re-opens that debate for us, I cannot see it being reinstated. I live in Victoria and the Clubs down here would go ballistic if the Commission made a move in that direction. While I 100% agree with everyone here that COLA should return, I'm afraid I just cannot see it happening.

On a positive in this regard, we have the Academy which provides us with priority access at a discount to NSW players as does GWS. We have 6 current first team players from that Academy: Mills, Heeney, Errol, Campbell, Blakey and Wicks. To some extent that covers the financial disadvantage of being in Sydney as they are "locals". Hopefully, that % of our list will further increase over time. On average, 60% of drafted players come from Victoria with just 10% from NSW and Qld combined. If that imbalance can reduce over time (which it should given relative populations and game development), then the "go home" factor will reduce further.

Agree Aprilbr. Our Academy is also looked upon suspiciously whenever the topic is brought up, with supporters down here in Vic seeing it as a non even playing field. Always comes up when we draft quality Academy players like Campbell & Gulden despite the true rort behind the NGA's, which has been exposed here many times.

Hopefully they treat any trade for dusty in the same way as Daniher . At the right price but not at any expense for the future

Missed this discussion. Kinda remarkable views about a player that might just be the best finals footballer ever to play the game. If he's available next year and we can afford what he's expecting, of course you go after him. We've had only one other star test the waters with us in recent years (Daniher) and we couldn't get that deal done. Don't look this magnificent gift horse in the mouth.

Talk that Giants may not be able to afford to retain Tim Taranto this year. Could he be the missing piece of our midfield? He’s only 24.

Unfortunately he’s been in the Giants system too long. All they do is take great players and make them average.
'Delicious' is a fun word to say

He'd be a great inclusion. Right age too. What would he be worth in terms of picks?
