I also thought Rowy was good. What irks me is this keyboard warrior vendetta has become irrational and disrespectful. It's become personal for whatever reason and the said poster will start to whinge that they're the one being attacked. Time to be better. Time to show some class I think.Comment

Jumped on to check out what's happening in the practice match, but most of what I'm seeing is the same silly histrionics from last year. Is it worth persisting with RWO in 2022 or will the same few take over every thread?
I'll come back tomorrow and see if anyone posts anything worthwhile from the match ie how players looked, any new roles, how the newbies shape up etc. It's a practice match and the actual result means zero. Zero.
How about posting meaningful stuff? And if you've posted more than a handful of times on a thread, or have repeated yourself ad nauseum on the same thing, maybe think about whether you need to post again.Comment

It’s 2021 all over for you again MCS, giving myself and TheBloods a kicking again.
Seriously MCS as a passionate and intelligent fan are you happy to have assistant coaches umpiring? You have spent your highly valuable time watching the Swans and Giants and both clubs don’t provide you with an official umpire.
I thought you would be on my side with this one.
The first 4 quarters had proper umpires.
The other part is a 'bonus track' - who cares. Maybe mullet man assistant coach really actually secretely is the anti-christ of Ray Chamberlain and wants to show blokes with too much hair can make it too.
The last period was 12 on 12 - I couldn't care less if they had you and TB out there umpiring. It was solely a chance for fringe players to get some minutes in the legs against other opponents then they would get in an intra-club game.

Blakey had a couple of pretty iffy moments defensively, but the run and carry and confidence is still there which is great to see - seems no long term implications at this point from last year's injury which is a good sign.
Papley was a little bit of a worry however - hopefully its solely precautionary, as wouldn't want to lose him for first chunk of the season. You certainly don't win a flag in the first 4-6 weeks of a season, but you can well ensure you can't win it either with a very poor start - as we found a few years ago when we went 0-6.Last edited by mcs; 25 February 2022, 09:06 PM."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Ladhams probably is not a 1st ruck but with Hickey we don't need him to be. Couple of clever snaps for goal.
Of the young/untried blokes I think Sheldrick and Roberts looked good in the limited game time. Not going to play early this season but they showed a bit - both very good kicks.Comment

Quick thoughts on what was a practice match
Chad Warner has gone up a gear from last year, will be vital for our fortunes
Heeney started in the middle a fair bit, the transition to Mid/Fwd has been made
Paddy McCartin looked very good in number 39, a keeper who will only get better as he learns the KDP role
Dylan Stevens given a wing for the game, looks to have turned the corner after the nerves and fumbles of seasons past, will be a bonus
Rowbottom much better than last years injury blighted season, on the way to be a very good mid
McDonald beefed up to look like a KPF, slow burn but so are all KPF
Hickey continued on from 2021, what a recruit, vital for our success
Ladhams ok for a first run, a lot of upside but has good skills for a ruckman
In the 5th and 6th quarters, Roberts was a cut above the others, will debut early
Dawson is a bigger loss than many on here want to admitComment

Not interested in a bandwagon , i made one comment , mentioned about 10 different blokes , then 10 different posters reply having a go at me for mentioning 1 particular bloke .
1 comment about 10 blokes vs 10 comments about 1 bloke , but im the one devolving the discussion ?
Was only giving my thoughts on the game same as everyone else .Not hard for anyone to scroll past it if they dont like it . Believe it or not im not interested in having arguments about him and i take no pleasure in bagging him, but im also not going to give him a free pass when reviewing a game just to please everyone else who like him .Last edited by TheBloods; 26 February 2022, 04:11 AM.Comment

I liked the game of James Rowbottom. He played just over four quarters of this one and won plenty of hard footy. I have been critical of his disposal in the past, and though he did miss a leading target at one point, kicking straight over his head, the majority of the footy he wins is in the contest and I like having him at the coal face.Comment

T thought that Campbell had a good night; stuck some good tackles, seemed to get a fair bit of the ball, and kicked well. Felt greater confidence when he took kickouts than Lloyd (or Blakey!).
Stephens did some good things and appeared to see more of the ball as the match progressed, but early on seemed to be missing. He was on the wing on the opposite side to the camera, so with the poor quality picture I may have missed some of his involvements.
Wicks missed a few shots at goal and his pressure was less obvious, but it is early days and the same could be said for others.
I thought both Warner and Rowbottom had good games; Rowbottom early and Warner throughout. Warner appears to have licence to take the game on and was caught a few times early in the game.
McLean's contribution was better than McDonald's in my opinion and it will be interesting to see who gets the 2nd / 3rd tall forward roll. Reid and Sinclair were off the pace. Ladhams popped up at the right place a few times, but his ruckwork was not an improvement on our 2nd ruck efforts last year. Plenty of time for further improvement though....
Of the new draftees, Roberts had a good game and both Sheldrick and Rankin found plenty of the ball. Its hard to see Taylor and Clarke getting games this year.
As others have said, Paddy McCartin had a good game and was the best of our defenders. His performance was the biggest positive of the match for me.Comment

I have had a nagging thought in my mind that maybe Hickey's season last year was a fluke. He has plugged away as a number 2-3 ruck for so many years now at various clubs. Then almost from no where has become one of the premier rucks in the competition, on one leg for most of season 2021 no less!
Last night was reassuring. Hickey was clearly the best ruck on the park. He would have to be the best in the competition at taking the ball directly from the ruck and clearing it, using his body to out position his opponent. His work around the field is also top notch. Although Chad, Heeney and Rowbum had their moments, GWS's inside work was much cleaner. Hickey was the only one of our on ballers who won his contest. Judging by his work last night, I'm predicting another big season.
Speaking of the ruck, MacAndrew looks a long way off AFL standard. It's very obvious he is new to the game. At one point, he had an uncontested run at the ball and tapped it straight to his opposition ruck!
Sheldrick looks great as did Rankin and Roberts. All 3 will be ready to debut if required.Comment
