No doubt in my mind there will be big offers for him from both the WA clubs. Let's hope we can convince him to stay - but fear he will always be a flight risk, especially as you say where wet toast are in the development cycle and looking for a new key forward.

Although, this season I expect West Coast to be down the bottom of the ladder and us to be near the top: so, I think the prospect of a couple of years of suffering in the west, may make any offer from us a bit more attractive. Fremantle, on the other hand, might be on the way up?

I'd agree with this. I do feel that both HMac and Amartey are slightly ahead of LMac at present. Both are stronger targets and have a higher work rate although LMac would appear to have a higher ceiling.

Playing as a key forward is one of the toughest roles in football. Few succeed in the long run, and those that do are generally very highly paid. It will take Logan several seasons to reach his potential. We have to be patient and let's his resigning is announced soon.

Very true. Carlton let Josh Kennedy go early in his career when they were desperate to get Judd.

I'll wait until they settle their best 22 but get a feel Carlton could have more than half of their side as imports. We only have about 3? JPK in 2009, Buddy in 2013, Paddy 2022

At one point I'm sure about 2/3rds of their list was ex-GWS hacks. Probably less so now as so many were busts. But they've definitely been kings of the 'import' for a long while (though the idea doesn't have too much validity more broadly in the AFL given there aren't many footballers out there that are in essence "Juniors" of the club they play for (northern academy players aside of course).

Really a question of whether we can match the $ Wet Toast or Freo will be offering. Can see West Coast throwing a long term contract at him (5+ years) to try and ward off any suitors, and noting they may (depending on how this season goes) have a pretty early draft picks in question.

Also add Ladhams 2022 & Hickey 2021 as imports making our best 22. On our list we also have Clarke, Taylor & Sinclair. Could argue Paddy is technically a DFA rather than direct import, but did start senior career elsewhere (Saints).

People know that I’m not a big Wicks fan and I think his spot should go to a more talanted player. No one agrees with me re Wicks. However, I’m not getting the “pile on” that poor TB is having to deal with for questioning the virtue of Rowbottom.

Another poster told the same story of a “pile on” when he dared to question Jude Bolton in 2007.

Why do many Red and White posters resort to a “pile on” when you dare to question the virtue of a Swans fan favourite or your ideas retreat from established Swans.com press releases or Swans press conferences?

Wicks played well. Plenty of pressure, plenty of disposals, caused numerous turnovers, and has added a significant contested ground ball ability. Kicked two nice goals which unfortunately didn't count.

Wicks isn't fashionable with some on here but he is a 100% footballer who certainly pays his way IMO. In the real world of the MC, being a high/er draft pick counts for nothing when selecting the team, actual performance is key. It's up to others to displace him from the seniors and I don't see anyone close to doing that at this point in time.

I think we might have raised a fair bit more than Carlton - did we do it for the money? Must have, there can't be any other explanation. Assuming half the people that entered paid (I can't imagine there were that many members there) and then we split the proceeds with GWS. Might have topped over $20K for each club. Plus extra if we got a cut of food and beverages, plus merchandise sales. Was that better than getting more bums on seats/turf? It's a fair amount of money but small relative to our total revenues. Might have covered the costs of travelling there and back.

Is our image tarnished or enhanced?

I don't have an issue with it to be honest - storm in a tea cup, and bored AFL Journos desperate for a story. Sort of get it if it was a game at like Lakeside Oval or Tom Willis Oval and we charged people to come and stand around and watch. But it was more like a proper pre-season match in the country compared to the Carlton game in question.

I don't know what the official attendance figure was - but I'm sure they said they thought about 7,000 people on commentary?

I'd be suprised if we got anything from food/beverages, but might have got a bit through merchandise. Sure its not much cash, but it probably offset costs associated with having the fixture down there (Rather then just at a Sydney venue) and that's about it (for instance ground hire was probably around 5K.

More broadly, I doubt it discouraged a whole lot of people from attending that would have otherwise - but that is solely conjecture of course.
