Agree with Mills. Love his combination of hard ball gets and corridor delivery.

Buddy is a great example for all sports people that a game can change and start going your way if your persistent with effort and positive spirit. Quiet in 1st half and brilliant in 2nd half.

Chad had great moments. That passage where he ran down the members wing and hit the post from 50m reminded me of the pace and power of Dangerfield.

Do any of the reserve viewers see the same pace and power in Corey?

I don’t think we were helped by those 1st quarter misses from Reid and McLean. They both took strong marks and failed to convert.

Really concerned by the form of Cunningham, Lloyd and Rampe. McStay looked like he was well on top at the ground.

Florent looked quite strong as a small defender. Maybe he can play there with Cunningham’s injury.

Blakey, Campbell and Guldon played well.

    Ladhams played well.

Kind of entertaining game, Swans kept coming but the better side won.

I reckon Campbell is going to be an absolute gem of a player - doing so well for an undersized defender, reads the ball well and generally uses it well. Many similarities to Mills when he first came in to the team playing out of position but doing super well too.
Campbell has better skills than Mills.

Ollie was very good on Bailey, at least defensively. Gotta admit I wasn’t sure he had that in him so well done to him. A small that plays closer to goal is what Harry tends to get but we’re about to need a replacement for him if reports of a groin are true.

One thing I’d be keen to get a view on from those at the ground. In the first half, we seemed to put a lot of time into Neale, with defensive types like Mills, Rowbottom, etc rolling through the role and whilst he had reasonable numbers, he wasn’t hurting us.

In the third quarter, it appeared Heeney and Chad often started next to him. They’re ball winners and creators who should be focused on that, not locking Neale away. I get you can hurt players by running off them, but boy he was the one that got free.

I’m not trying to praise or knock particular players here, as if it was as it appeared on the box, it was a coaching call.

Thought McLean was very unlucky - the shot clock started really early for him, so he scarcely had time to get back on his mark and the ump was calling it off. Seemed very strange.

Agree it was an entertaining game - they were far too polished for us in the first half, and then a brilliant comeback was short circuited when the pretty boy umpire decided he wasn't going to have a bar of it. Several 50/50 decisions by the same umpire completely changed the momentum of the game and effectively snuffed out any prospect of a contest - it was a very frustrating 15 mins (also coincided with a brilliant period by Neale it should be fairly noted).

Also agree on the form of Rampe, Harry and Lloyd, especially the first two - well off their best defensively at the moment I feel.

I think the score at QT was 9 all and both teams scored freely after that. There are many games where teams are scoring over 100 points.

Well done to the AFL rules committee for getting the settings right and to the coaches for embracing attacking football.

Corey has neither the power nor skills of Chad, but he's lightening quick and would leave Chad in a trail of dust. He's a real line breaker.

I'm not too downcast about this result; merely a reality check. We can still be a top 4 team but we are clearly, right now, behind the two top teams. And we can improve meaningfully over the season, and we will improve by playing teams like Brisbane.

I said last week that Braeden showed signs that he is the real deal and I saw more of that tonight. He is beginning to break out. He has the makings of being a ripper of a player. But I think I'll always love Errol more.

The midfield coach at both Chad and Corey’s school quoted that Corey was more advanced than Chad at the same age.

Watching Chad, there’s a flair to always take the game on. That amazing run down the wing was one example.

Does Corey take the game on like Chad?

We’ve only had one game from a 1st year player this year. We need these 1st year players pushing for senior spots Ike Logan, Campbell and Guldon were last year.

Until last year, Chad had not shown that much offensively. He looked to be a really determined scrapper and ball-getter, more like RB.

Pre-draft his highlight clips were mostly him winning contested ball and not doing that much with it, and lots of tackles and pressure acts to support his teammates. In his first year he was somewhat lacklustre as forward flanker. Over the 2021 pre-season he was working hard at building his size and honing his aggression. Then, suddenly, it seemed, he broke out and started playing some killer footy. Now it turns out his strength is his ability to power away from a stoppage and then kick goals. Nice! But not what I had foreseen.

Corey impressed me more than I expected the first couple of weeks but has not caught my eye much in the past couple of reserves games. Roberts is the standout. And so too would Sheldrick be if we'd had the chance to see more of him I believe. Rankin is a way off it but coming along nicely. We recruited him for his kicking ability and speed but I am encouraged by his willingness to get in and contest the ball even though he doesn't yet have the physique for it. Dyl Stephens is a worry. He looked best in his first year, despite having managed to bulk up a bit and still being quick and full of run. He's not looking bad but I would be hoping that he would be dominating at reserves level and I wouldn't say that he is.

Is that Umpire no.27? If so I have seen him in other games and I am not impressed. We had him in an earlier game. Umpire Andre Gianfanga.
