I agree, but I don't have an issue with the umpire stopping play. My first reaction was that Caldwell was seriously hurt.

Great stuff TB. You always bring extra insights to the table. Red and White are privileged to have access to this extra information which they wouldn’t have otherwise.

Do people think they two rucks are here to stay or do people want Reid or McLean playing 2nd ruck?

Horse’s horses for courses I should think. Ladhams is proving to be a solid 2nd ruckman (but not a stand out yet, that will likely take time). McLean provides more up forward and covers a lot more around the ground. Sammy gives us the swing man versatility pinch hitting in the ruck, KPD or KPF. Sam might depend on injuries to tall defenders. Hayden might depend on injuries/management of Logan/Buddy. And we still have Sinkers if needed

Shiel is OK if things are going his way but as soon as the going gets tough he disappears. He only rinds hard if he and his teammates have the ball. As soon as the opposition have it he stops. Does not chase. So Parker let him know how everyone sees him. A soft player with no heart

          Slightly overpaid perhaps.

Which he was....but if there's no free, the game should not be stopped. If he needs assistance, that's what the trainers are there for.

I prefer the two ruck set up.....for now.

I thought Ladhams was ok and when Hickey was off the ball he squared the ledger pretty well. McLean at centre bounces offers little compared to Ladhams. If they can both stay on the park they will be a formidable combo.

I am sure Caldwell got the free because he was contacted high. How many times have we seen play go on when a player is in distress from an incident, and people yell out.."stop the play". I think these days umpires have taken on a duty of care call.

They dont get to stand around getting on the end of others play like others do , they have to earn it through grunt . Doesnt matter what the opposition is like , if you dont work hard as a pressure fwd you wont get the ball . They both had 10+ and Wicks nearly had 20 which shows how hard they worked . And i had fired up the grill for both and was ready .
Wicks and Bell did some nice things. The issue is, this was about their best level and I don’t see much upside to their game. The Bomber backs were all over the place and you could have thrown any of our good ressies in there and they would have done the job. For example, the 2 goals Wicks kicked were gimmes though of course they still had to be kicked. He was involved in some nice passages of play but honestly, the opposition was pretty weak. Bell kicked a lovely goal early and then had a few nice touches which you would expect from anyone.

Yes, I may be a bit harsh on these 2, but I need to see a massive improvement from them to justify regular selection.
I would try Roberts and Gould to see what they can do. Very happy with a great win but there’s plenty of room for improvement. Special mention to Chad, Mills and Buddy, but goal kicking practice for all our forwards this week!

Would like to see other players (Gould, COR etc) tried in the small defender role to allow Ollie to play on the wing again.

The ump specifically said the free was against T McCartin for front-on contact.

Well they are wrong to do so.....as in this case, there was actually no free kick to give. It's incidental contact caused by two players with eyes on the ball, no free should be paid.

If we are going to judge all potential contact frees by the resultant level of hurt, the game is in big trouble.

If Bell continues to do what the coaches want and there isn't a obviously better player in the 2s, then I guess he will get picked.

I for one do not want Sam anywhere near the ruck. Hopeless. Not his bag. McLean gives more of a, contest but much prefer 2 rucks. Amartey can ruck really well and has done so at need.

Yeah I think so. But Bombers have a lot of his, type. Merritt etc are the same.

Yes which is really weird because Caldwell was the one running with the flight and McCartin in the conventional approach to the ball. I though 'front on contact was only if Caldwell was running the opposite way. It was a wrong decision. As McCartin approached from the legal position if approaching the ball in it' a flight but Caldwell approached the ball running with the flight. He never turned, which he is required to do while running with the flight and meeting a player coming in the opposite direction. It was a dead wrong decision simply because of that factor
