Buddy needs to play unless he asks to be rested, which is unlikely.

    In: Ladhams
    Out: Hickey (managed)
    Sub: Joey

Leave Amartey in for another week though he didn’t do a lot but is handy in the ruck. Logan to come back against the Pies if Amartey doesn’t have a good game. Big Tom needs a rest as he clearly wasn’t 100% and will be needed for the finals. Harry just needs to be patient as the back 6 are playing well.

This will be a tough game and hope the boys don’t switch off mentally. We need to build confidence and play well in all our games leading to the finals. Winning form is what we want!

Ladhams has missed three can’t see him coming straight in unless Hickey needs a rest or managed minutes .

The selection dilemma going forward before finals is our forward /ruck tall position.

Reid currently picks himself , Hickey also if fit.

Their leaves one position left between Amartey , McDonald or Ladhams

Could we really mix things up and run a 3 ruck combo of Hickey, Ladhams and Reid when all fit. Ladhams and Reid are better than handy forwards and Hickey causes match up problems when pushing forward .
One could be resting on the bench while the other two are on the ground .
Reid deserves to still be used as a Ruck at stages as he has been more than handy . Ladhams best games have been as a ruckman
        Food for thought

More of a statement if all three were fit , could we potentially play all 3 of Reid , Hickey and Ladhams and still not take away from the team structure

Possibly we could.... but it would be at the expense of Logan/Amartey/McLean.

I really don't think we should play both Hickey and Ladhams either. We will need plenty of speed and running in the finals. Its not like either will be likely to clunk a lot of marks up forward. Better to go with one of McDonald, Armetey or McLean up forward instead. Its a toss up between those three at present. All bring different attributes to the table. If we play finals at the MCG which will happen if we make the final 4 (Melb or Geelong), then I think McDonald is the best bet on the wide open spaces with his ability to cover ground well and kick long (albeit not always straight).

No way Ladhams should play. It’s no coincidence that we win more when he doesn’t play.

If Hickey is injured I would rather Reid and Amartey share the ruck load. They would be more than capable, especially with the great form Sammy is in.

If they lose 0-1, their percentage drops almost nothing, the same as if they win 1-0.

If they lose 100 to 101, they will lose more percentage than the 80-81 scenario (or a 101-100 win).

The percentage is their total scores from all games, divided by their total scores against. So if they have to keep scoring 131.6 points to every 100 points the opponents score to maintain their 131.6 percentage.

So narrow wins or losses will still hurt them a lot percentage wise, and more so if it is larger scores by each team (as then the ratio of scores against scores against narrows by more).
Okay, so it’s not whether you win or lose but how you play the game?

But, anyway, my inner pedant was still not convinced.

                                1653/1256 * 100 = 131.6
                                1734/1336 * 100 = 129.8

Or am I doing it wrong?

But I get the point overall… when you’ve got a healthy percentage, a tight win means you’ll still lose percentage.
