The only person who seemed to think it was a goal was the goal umpire. It seemed to be a point and I feel the right decision was made in the end. To be fair to Hardwick, it's difficult to see from the review pictures we saw on TV how the goal umpire's decision could be overturned. To be unfair to Hardwick, he seems to be complaining that the reviewer got it right but for the wrong reasons.

The vision is inconclusive, the players by their reactions thought it wasn't a goal, the goal umpire thought it was. Both players and goal
umpires get things wrong. A whole lot of people THINK they know what it was. But basically no one really knows 100% whether it was
a goal or not. And when you lose by 2 points in an EF, I can understand how it's frustrating.

This is actually the crux of the whole saga....not the review itself. They say the Score Review System was introduced to correct howlers.....well, the goal umpires call of "I think it was a goal" was THE howler. To everyone else it appeared to be a point.

This 'soft call' is where the process can fall down OR can be corrupted. I have seen many score reviews where my take on the goal umpire saying "I think it was a goal" actually means 'I want it to be a goal'.....knowing that if the evidence is inconclusive, a goal will be duly awarded as 'umpires call'. How many times have we seen an opposing team get the soft call of 'a goal' against us? It's a potential fall back option for cheats/biased officials.

I wish the AFL could tell us where this goal umpire comes from (Victoria?)......because he's crap.

Yes but the initial decision is made by the umpire. It's not made by polling "everyone else". Re the umpires, I think most
of them take their job seriously and don't favour Vic teams over interstate teams just because they live in Victoria too.
You would have to be a total peanut to do that.
Ultimately the problem is with the quality of the vision. Either the technology to get more accurate and hi definition images
exists or it doesn't. If it exists and the AFL can't afford it then you have to wonder why they persist with such inconclusive
(ie blurry) vision. Maybe they've just decided it's better than nothing.

I agree that the vision quality does not stack up in this 'review' scenario.....it's such low quality, so if they are serious about obtaining correct results, they should go Full HD and more cameras or just drop the whole thing.

However, I still say it is in the A(V)FL's interests to have blurry vision and a soft call process. They are not serious about the much vaunted 'level playing field' and never have been.

How well must Geelong be going if Parfitt can’t get a start.

Although I'd rather be facing Collingwood in a prelim I still want the Pies to beat Geelong.

Dream scenario: both Demons and Cats go out in straight sets.

Cats look a bit shell shocked...if Collingwood kick straight, the Cats would be way behind. Still 14 pts down early is a worry. The Magpies are emulating our pressure from last night. Cats need to steady.

                        Pressure, but also leg speed.

Collingwood getting to play at the MCG while Geelong have to travel is just wrong. There's not a great deal of advantage to finishing top of the ladder as it is, and the Cats don't even get that. Yes more fans get to see the game live but Collingwood have not earned the right to have all their fans cheering them on. I guess it just comes down to money in the end.

God Luke Darcy and James Brayshaw are intolerable together. How many times can they say "finals like" or "feels like a final" or "this is a final". Jesus I get it ... it's a final

Agreed. Another corrupt element of the AFL. Dread the concept of versing the Pies in the GF. Would be like 2016 all over again

Rohan a “major ball winner” at qtr time!

On the basis of the game so far, I’m getting more and more confident of our chances this year.

Pies are butchering chances. You can’t do that against elite sides
