Here is a recent article on the AFL video review system.

“According to statistics provided by the AFL, there were 127 score reviews in the first 17 rounds of the season. Of those, 126 have been deemed correct. Thirty-two of the reviews resulted in an umpire’s decision being overturned. In simple terms, it means that one in four reviewed decisions involving a score would have been wrong without the aid of the video review system.”

I remember reading that. I don't buy 126/127 score reviews were correct. I think what they mean is that 126/127 were not unarguably wrong. Last night's score review is a good example. The AFL have deemed that the correct call was made by the score reviewers but there is no consensus around that opinion in the media, public or coaches etc.

Lachie Neale had 15 clearances last night. Man, he can play. Equal second best in a final since they started counting.

It was obviously a point by the reaction of all the players nearby and the guy who kicked it. The AFL community should be thanking the review system from an obvious goal umpire blunder.

Look, no one likes Hardwick and everyone is total over Richmond. That's a given. But he does have a bit of a point. As someone said that
unless you have multiple photos all taken at the same time and can "triangulate" the position of the ball then you can't conclusively say it
passed over the top of the goal post. I mean maybe the AFL does have that technology to do that. I don't know if they do or they don't.
Looking at the blurry photos we see on TV doesn't give us much confidence that they do though. Hardwick's other point is that the reaction
of Lynch and the other Richmond players is irrelevant if you are basing the overrule decision on the technology. There is nothing in the
goal review process that says the reaction of the kicker should be considered.
Without conclusive very high definition vision the whole process is flawed. But goal umpires are flawed too.
I find it interesting that the review images you see on TV in American pro sports like baseball and hockey are way way better than
what we see in the AFL goal review process. I suppose there is a much bigger market for them there and so companies and the leagues
have invested the dollars required.

I have proposed this before but strangely it hasn't gained much traction in AFL circles. My idea is for each team have a baseball style
bullpen where up to ten ruckmen are held. As the starting ruckman goes down (in our case that would be Hickey getting injured,
or Ladhams having a brain explosion, assuming he has one) relief ruckmen would replace them until they are replaced themselves
by the next guy in the bullpen for being generally useless. The bullpen would be on the opposite side of the field away from the
bench as it is in baseball. It's best if the ruckmen are kept away from the regular team members as much as possible. They are
always falling over and punching things (and people) and present a danger to anyone ever near them. At the SCG our ruckmen
bullpen would be over near the O'Reilly Stand, or even perhaps underneath it somewhere.

Happy to see the Lions do well, also quite happy for the Swans to play them if they lose tonight.

Watching in real time it looked like it was a point which was, I believe confirmed by the players reactions. So I am really pleased that Richmond lost and now we need Fremantle to defeat the bulldogs.
