Remember it well. It was like Christmas if South were on the replay. 1970 when we made the final 4 under Norm Smith was an exception.

Now that Foxtel will be using it's own broadcasters, I won't be able to get the 7 broadcast crew.

I'm going to miss Brian soooooo much.

Ahhh you folks are really nice- Thanks to all for the lovely words about my elderly mum- I feel much better after reading your words...

I looked at the deal and it seems that only selected games will be delayed- so that's not so bad and it doesn't start immediately, so I have time to persuade mum to join the 21st century

Thanks for indulging me and responding so wonderfully...

I find it all very confusing, but there is a good summary here:

What the new AFL broadcast deal means for you, the clubs, and the game

          Key quote:

In the developing states of the north, the Swans, Lions, Suns and Giants will lose three live games on free to air each.
And all three of those games will be in those first eight rounds of the season.
The AFL media release - with a touch of deft leg spin - described this fine print thus: “Outside Victoria, the match involving the local team will be broadcast live into the local market on the Seven Network and 7+ digital except for selected matches on holdback (my emphasis).”
So from 2025 onwards: 3 Swans games in the first 8 weeks will be broadcast with a delay (holdback) on free-to-air C7.

I was 5 years old, but still remember two games; when we flogged Carlton and the comeback against Collingwood. Great days.

It will be interesting to see which games they hold back....

If they delay 3 home games, that helps the swans get more fans through the gate.

If they delay 3 away games, that helps foxtel because it will be the only way to see the game 'live' for sydney siders.

So would this be a Sydney thing and different for those of us in regional areas? Showing it delayed still won't get me through the gates from up here in Coffs Harbour.

But does it? If you want to go to the game, you want to go to the game. You're not sitting around thinking about what time it's
                  going to be on TV.

I don’t think the tv delay will have any +ve impact on swans crowds in Sydney. It’s just not that type of market.

I think it will have zero impact on people attending or not. It is as much about increasing incentives for people to get Foxtel/Kayo in my opinion as anything else - but seems a strange trade off that probably really adds very little value per say. But I guess every little bit counts on a big deal per say.

Sydney people dont because they never had to. But there is a reason games in other states are not shown live against the gate.

From my point of view, the new TV deal will mean Fox having their own call for each game. So tired of the Channel 7 experts for so many years, opinionated and biased. Fox will still need to lift it's game and improve their call team and have them at each of the games, not calling from Melb studios!!!!

Ha. At risk of sounding like our long, lost friend Bangalore80, I don't mind BT as a caller.

I know he gets bored and silly during dull games, and the roaming Brian stuff is meh, but when there is a truly big game or big moments to be called, he switches on and actually does it very well. His call of the Fox smother the other night was first class.

Agree. I don't think there are people in Sydney who normally just watch the Swans live on TV who will suddenly decide to go to the SCG
just because the telecast of the game is going to be delayed on free to air TV. They will just watch the delayed FTA telecast or they'll
sign up for Kayo and watch the game live. I can see how a delayed FTA telecast will push some people towards Kayo, but not to the
                                SCG.
