Would that be the most inexperienced team ever fielded?

The only players with AFL seniors experience: Clarke, Stephens, Warner, McAndrew, Gould
plus experience of Arnold. Take out one of these to sub for seniors

Other AFL listed players with some VFL experience: Rankin, HHK

To be playing against a Brisbane team with oodles of players with AFL experience is going to be some challenge!!!!1

Depends how you measure it. And who the senior sub is (who may back up and play VFL if they aren’t needed in the AFL til the final quarter).

When we played Carlton a couple of weeks ago, the commentators said we had 45 (or thereabouts) games of AFL experience. Stephens accounted for the bulk of that, with Gould, Warner and Sheldrick accounting for about ten games between them.

This week, Clarke into the line up already increases the collective AFL experience by a decent amount. Whether that means anything in the scheme of things, who knows. It’s still a very inexperienced (and very young) side.

I'm actually quite interested in this game. Mainly from a developmental point of view, but also because I tend to think that it might be closer than the ladder positions suggests. That is, the main reason that Brisbane have been consistently near the top of the reserves table, is that they've hardly had any injuries for the past four or five seasons. However, with Rich and Gunston being managed and a few other injuries, this is possibly the most amount of instability that they've had to deal with over that time. In contrast, our inexperienced team has been starting to gel.

Although, with Buller being promoted, we do have the structural problem of no genuine KPF. Gander will probably have a go, but he's more suited to forward flanker. Hopefully, Owen will become more mobile and offer more of a genuine target.

And on the forward line, I'm curious to see how Konstanty goes today. While he's yet to get going in regards to possessions and goals, his defensive pressure has been increasingly good. So, with Wicks likely to be suspended or dropped, there's some sort of chance that he could play himself into an AFL debut.

The other structural problem that this side has had is the lack of genuine inside mids. But Clarke returning should be helpful and Corey Warner has been improving in that role. Also hoping that Stephens might back up, after only a small amount of game time last night. While Cleary and Kirk should both be useful, as they've been very good this season at academy level.

The commentators seem to have a strange obsession with Gander. They were even crediting him with Owen's ruck contests.

The Lions may have had to make a couple of changes this week, but they are still vastly more experienced (and bigger, stronger). They even have VFL listed players such as Buzza and Dunkley who've spent a bit of time in the AFL system and played a handful of senior AFL games.

I know, I was wondering if they were related to Gander?
Our lack of a KPF is hurting us, with Brisbane able to rebound effectively. The 9-3 free kick count is annoying me.

Nice effort by Rider to put through a set shot, before limping off with an ankle strain.

Most of Brisbane's frees have been fine, but I was irritated when the commentators contrasted Brisbane not having kicked a goal from a free to Sydney having kicked two from frees, just after Cockatoo had kicked a goal for a free that was a blatant duck of his head.

Good to see that Edwards has returned to the ground. Fingers crossed that Rider and Brown are ok. That was a fine mark by Rider, and it was impressive to convert the shot despite the painful ankle.

McAndrew is doing well at centre bounces to get the hands into Warner or Stephens. But we need a bit more imagination and finesse to the way the ball is then moved forward.

Bit more one-sided than I was hoping for, but I suppose there's been a few positives. The main one I think is the ruck work of McAndrew. He's been getting hitouts to advantage to midfielders at pace. Unfortunately, after those clearances, it's generally been breaking down immediately in the forward 50: either through missing targets or the targets not being able to keep the ball. Then Brisbane have really burnt us on the rebound.

Other positives have been the evasiveness of Warner and Stephens in traffic; Cleary looking up to the standard, even if hasn't spent that much time on the ball, and Endemann continuing his improvement to be a reliable VFL level player.

That quarter was a bit painful. Brisbane was able to move the ball far more cohesively and confidently. Perhaps the highlight for us was a few nice efforts by Konstanty up forward.

80 pts in arrears - Difficult to watch. Played well early then a big fade. Is there at fitness issue at the club?

Konstanty's best quarter, but still looks way below VFL level. There's still plenty of time to improve, but Konstanty and Vickery don't look close to the level one would expect from 2 high draft picks.

Hall-Kahan looks most like an AFL player from this squad. Stephens wins the ball and can run, but rarely makes anything good happen. Prefer Warner's game.

Hard to believe how good Brisbane's VFL team is. I'm sure they could beat the WCEs.

Rider and Vickery didn't make it to half time. Rankin and Brown went off injured in the third. So, the lack of interchanges added to the degree of difficulty, that comes from trying to chase a much more experienced side, that can move the ball more cohesively.

Comparing the teams I was thinking we might be flogged. Lions are a top 4 team and have more than 500 AFL games of experience, we have only 5 players that have played even 1 senior game.
Not sure we can evaluate individual players when the team as a whole is so outclassed, but McAndrew looked the best ruckman on the ground. His improvement this year has been really encouraging. I thought Warner was the best of our midfielders.
Also thought Konstanty at last showed some glimpses, as his previous games have been very disappointing. But perhaps I am clutching at straws.
Anyway we should get some more senior players back soon as Mills, McDonald, Franklin, etc come back to the seniors. Here's hope for some more wins.

I don't know why we haven't yet put Konstanty on the ball for patches in games like this where the ball is hardly hitting our forward line with any sort of system.

At least he might gain a bit of confidence and get a few touches being up the ground a bit!
