How do you distinguish "our own pocket" from that part of the revenue that comes from the AFL (which, equalisation elements aside, is largely the club's share of the media deal)? It all goes into one pot, alongside money from memberships, merchandise, sponsorships and any other side pursuits that a club might have (such as pokie revenue for most of the Victorian clubs).

We do have sponsorship specific to the academy - that is, QBE is the main sponsor of the academy in addition to being the primary sponsor of the club. I imagine they pay extra money over and above what they were paying in sponsorship before the academy launched, though I guess there's an argument that they have a finite amount of money they are willing/able to contribute to the club as a whole.

I believe the AFL also makes a financial contribution to the academy (and all other academies) over and above the normal distribution we get from them. I don't know how big this is relative to the amount we find from other sources.

Wasn't eligible to Brisbane as he hadn't been in their academy long enough - came from the NT?

We only have one pick at 11 in the rookie Draft. Does that mean we will pick Reid in the Supplementary section which is open until Feb?

I suspect that we'll take Reid with that pick 11, in the increasingly poorly named rookie draft. Assuming that none of the clubs before us decide that they want to go for an injury prone 31 year old. I think we also have a category B spot open, but if I remember rightly, the club usually announces who they've taken at leisure, rather than making a pick on the day.

Perhaps Kirk, Rider will get a spot in the VFL squad, or whatever?

As expected, Reid redrafted on Rookie List. So that's it. Not sure if any other spots still up for grabs now that Kirk fills CatB spot

It was a typo and was supposed to be “fast”

It is the nickname for my son when he was little lol [emoji23]

But Patrick is “fast” hence the play on words with his surname

3 seconds even on the 20m sprint at the combine was nice an quick for a 194cm player.

His running style reminded be of AJ ie how hunched and forward leaning the both are when anticipating the ball or changing direction

The best part was that he looks strong already for a tall and may develop quite quickly in a full time environment.
                      Sicher ist Snell schnell!
He looks a very likely prospect, with that height and speed.
                      Really looking forward to 2024!

Stewy Maxfield also had a footy playing son who was on the radar several years back (probably at least five years ago, maybe longer).

Has Kirk got traits that make us think he'll make the grade?

Last season I would have said possibly not, but after playing as an over-ager this season, I'd say maybe.

That is, in his draft year, he was playing mainly on a wing; where he would have a few nice touches, show a willingness to chase and tackle, but never really influenced any games enough to put forward a compelling case to be drafted. Although Rookie Me gave him a few enthusiastic write ups. However this season, he was switched to an inside mid role and that seemed to suit him better. He showed composure and evasiveness in traffic, and as you'd expect from a Kirk, he was hard at the ball and tackled strongly. He also worked well with Cleary and May; all three seemed to have a good understanding of what each other was doing. And since I mentioned May, I think he definitely helped the other two with some clean hitouts. So, let's hope he gets a VFL contract or an over-age year at the academy.

And on the VFL, Kirk has already played a couple of games in the VFL where he's been one of our better players, so he's certainly up to VFL standard. Not really sure if he can take the next step up, but I wouldn't write him off, especially if he can add a bit of pace and muscle.

You have hit the nail on the head. This is why the Northern Academy’s are vital to the future of the game. Sadly you will no doubt a push to change the rules, but hopefully sanity will prevail
