We’re entering a very long window if we keep managing and adding to our list. We have three elite players aged 26 in Isaac, Mills and Paps, followed by our special crew of 22 years and under youngsters in Chad, Campbell, Gulden, Blakey, McDonald etc. Hickey’s best is still a bit better than Ladhams, he’s been terrific and there will be times we need him. But the long view is the more we play Ladhams, the better he keeps getting and the more he and the guys around him synch.

As for Roberts, he was very good. He can compensate for his lack of athleticism. If I had one knock on his game it was once or twice he ran himself or the teammate he wanted to give the ball off to into a tight spot. It’s very coachable so no biggie, and he seems a smart player anyway.

The other one in hindsight who had an even better game than I realised at first was Logan. He got the bulk of his work done in the first half, but in the second half he made a lot of contests where defenders had an edge and evened them, did a couple of nice blocks, and had the vision to give off good kicks for Papley’s first and final goals of the last quarter. The kicks didn’t need to be perfect; just to space, and he hit them both quickly and correctly. He’s a rare talent and may the footy gods be kind to him.
Agree on Latham, to me his mistakes are from trying to do too much. Maturity will sort that out.

Seems to have a knack of taking a mark from a bailout kick right when we need it though

Hayward is like Stephens, they are bailout options and are told to hold the ball and wait for the players to get fwd. I don't think either deliberately don't trust their kicking its what they are told to do.

I confess, I don't think I can forgive Latham's mistakes as easily as might Ladham's. [Yay, I can quote posts again!]

No issues when he takes the mark from a bailout kick . More when he takes a mark outside 50 . I should of explained myself better .

Ha. As someone who once or twice had the ‘pleasure’ of dealing with Latham through work, let’s just say Ladhams is extremely even tempered and a member of Mensa by comparison.

I don’t believe Ladhams has even made his maiden speech yet ? If so it’s gone unnoticed.

I actually thought his tap work was excellent, and by the last quarter the penny had dropped regarding how much he could dominate, and he was giving it to the mids on a platter.

We were the youngest team of the round last week, with 15 members of our team 24yrs or younger

Papley plays himself into record books

The table at the foot of this article, listing the players that Papley has joined as 6+ goal kickers in game for the Swans in the Sydney era is interesting. Except that it is incomplete.

I had a feeling that the current Adelaide coach once had a day out in front of goal, and I've just looked him up. He did, indeed, kick six goals against St Kilda in 2001.

But the most surprising omission from the list is club legend Adam Goodes, whose best outing in front of goal was the eight goals he kicked against Freo in 2008 (while carrying a significant knee injury).

Are there other omissions anyone can spot?

Some people (non Swans) make fun of Capper but to be at number three on that list, above Barry Hall and only below Lockett and Franklin is some achievement. Well done Wazza!

                              Coaches votes via https://www.afl.com.au/news/907285 -

                              Richmond v Sydney

                              10 Tom Papley (SYD)
                              8 Nick Blakey (SYD)
                              5 Isaac Heeney (SYD)
                              5 Chad Warner (SYD)
                              2 Liam Baker (RICH)

Agree with the coach who went: 5 Papley; 4 Blakey; 3 Heeney; 2 Warner; 1 Baker.

Also tend to agree with the coaches votes. Although, while I think Papley was a deserved winner, I was actually more pleased with Blakey's game. In that he successfully played as a KPD, when I wasn't sure if his slim upper body would allow him to do that. Possibly don't want him spending a lot of time on Hawkins next game, but seeing him go up against Cameron might be fun? Hopefully what would happen most, would be Cameron watching Blakey disappear into the distance, rather than Blakey standing the mark, while Cameron takes another set shot.

Slightly disappointed that Campbell didn't get a vote or two, since I thought he was very good. Spent a fair bit of time on Bolton and probably had the better of that battle. Also pleased with a couple of his stats. He ran 15.9km, which was the most of any Swan, while his 94% of game time, was second only to the 95% of Fox. Originally I think there was some doubt about his tank, so that's a testament to the hard work that he's done to build up his stamina. Which should see him playing more time as a midfielder, as he can also lay a tackle and he goes in hard at a contest.

Also agree with Baker getting a couple of votes, as he's one of my favourite non-Swans players. During the third quarter, when Richmond were making a comeback, I was really missing Clarke and his ability to lock down a rebounding defender.
