We’ve had Heeney Mills Blakey Campbell and Gulden as free hits. I shudder to think how we would’ve gone without the academy selections

Had to watch a few times as the camera angle switches from far away to a zoom. I’m pretty sure it’s Florent. Instead of sticking next to him he sits back and then goes into tackle Himmelberg. Is this the one goal that Longmire is counting against Florent ?

Part of the club's development and recruitment. Not a free hit.

Longmire said that it was supposed to be a handover and that it was messed up. Not sure of the players involved.

Come on guys, way too many extreme reactions being expressed.

Two points from four very gettable set shots in the second quarter cost us the game, they should never have been close enough to beat us. Our inaccuracy, their accuracy and some lucky toe pokes beat us.

We are a depleted team with a long injury list. Might be the year we go backwards before moving forward again.

If it was a handover then it was Chad who should have taken over but he too went ball chasing. But for me I don’t think it’s a handover situation. Florent was already metres from Greene when Himmelberg was getting the ball

Sorry Ludwig can't agree last year was a fluke. You can't fluke an entire season.

Agree. GWS are not duds and will trouble a lot of teams. Competition has become more even and injuries have become even more important in terms of team performance. Accurate kicking is and always has been crucial.

Agreed it's Florent. Longmire said in the press conference that it was a hand-over, but it doesn't look like it. It looks like Florent starts on Greene, and moves to the front of the pack, while Greene leaks off to the back and gathers uncontested.

Just one more straight kick by us or one less by them was the difference. I think we were better for most of the day and it was the difference in accuracy that kept them in it in the fourth quarter and able to snatch the win with a lapse for the final goal.
I think this is about right. A lot of the stats were quite even today. The big differences: Swans had 63 inside 50s to 48, and 12 marks inside 50 to 7. But the inside 50 efficiency was similar and the accuracy 62% to 77%. Giants made more of their scoring chances - most notably at the death! But then Greene is probably what footy media would call "the ultimate clutch player".

At the ground I thought the Swans went well for large parts of the game and it was pretty even, the Giants never ran away with a lead. It's very clear though how much the defence misses Rampe.

Very disappointing to give up a 4-goal lead late in the game but again, that's just game pressure on a young and inexperienced team. They just have to keep learning, acquiring experience and moving on I guess. I don't think that "wholesale changes in everything" is the answer.

There's always next week! Even if I do fear that they'll get absolutely monstered next week.

My brother just showed me footage of the last stoppage and Himmelberg should have firstly been penalised for a throw and then he dropped it.

Regardless, our goal kicking accuracy and our inside 50 entries are what cost us. Too bad Heeney and Buddy couldn't at least kick a point instead of out on the full.

O'Halloran for GWs is in his second season and is in the mids full time. Give Gus and Sheather a chance otherwise let them hone their mids game in the reserves. It is all about Horse's philosophy that mids start their career as forwards. Which is crap now because all the best teams prefer to have specialist forwards. Horse has never been much for mids. He keeps our mids on ball for far too long. He won't put new blood there and won't mix it up. I think he has been found out.
Me? I think your reply should be directed at the one I was replying to, caj23, who said:"I’m not suggesting Sheldrick be dropped, just looks like another in a long line of first round stuff ups where we choose to overlook obvious talents and reach for lesser players
If you take out our academy selections our drafting has been poor".

I was having a go at our recruiters also, not so much Sheldrick, although we do need KPP's (I'll admit, that is in hindsight from this year's turn of events) and VR may have been a wiser choice. Time will tell....I like Gus but it appears he was out of depth today at least. 3 disposals. If he stays in, I hope he is put in the middle and we'll see how he goes.

Too many One-eyed Arthurs on here, it was a very even cracking high scorning game of footy. The Giants got that magic momentum swing at the end and you have to say it was very exciting for them and very disappointing for us.
That’s footy folks. It was a massive improvement on last week .
