Lets be fair though- we've barely kicked straight all season haha! The point is fair, but bad kicking is bad footy as well, and something we have no one but ourselves to blame for.

And while there is some validity in the point around under done players (for instance Amartey didn't even look close to fit for mine tonight, Blakey was struggling even before the HIA, Rampe looked well off the pace), our last quarters this year have been pretty terrible in general. Our fitness levels do not feel like they are where they should be - some of that is injuries/under done player related, but I think more broadly there are question marks around our conditioning this season. Some years you just don't get it right - and we certainly haven't this year.

How long was Chris Scott coaching before last year’s premiership?

Scott has 2 premierships, something Longmire will never have with is shortcomings

We are done for the season and need to think about draft selections. Rampe was not fit and could barely walk in the last quarter, Buddy was out of petrol in the last quarter and could barely run.If he wants to keep playing he has to be the sub. Goodsey played reserves football and so should Buddy. Wicks and Clarke should not be in the side. Both are fearful of putting their body into contests. Only bright light was Sheldrick played his best game.

12 years. Has a very ordinary finals record compared to JL. Club stuck with him rigjtly as we will with our present coach.

                Ugh. What an ugly game.

A few bonuses. That’s Campbell’s best game. He’s popping and gonna be a gun. Sheldrick tick. Same for Ollie and Rowie.

The downside: our kicks inside 50 continue to kill us. Clarke, and I say this with no malice, but the extra half second he takes to make a decision is lethal and hurts. He did his job last year in a team in peak synch, but no more please.

I’m also bothered by Lloyd’s form. Possessions, yes. Impact, no. And we love Chad, and he was good if not great tonight, but if he has one thing to learn, it’s discerning between the freedom to take the game on inside d50 vs elsewhere. That kick in the last quarter where he cleared to Clarke with a cute kick and not to his advantage, and it got turned over for the Higgins goal, was yuk.

It annoys me that some people seem to take the first opportunity to lay the boot into Longmire without any other analysis. It almost seems like some people are hoping that we lose so that they can be correct about Longmire being past it.
Its not that he is past it, but his voice has /is lost on this group. 10 years a Senior coach plus multiple as an assistant...

Roos stepped down before his time was up, sadly, longmire is going the other direction.

They may be hard to break down, but they won't win anything playing the way they do as they won't kick a big enough score to win against good teams. It is a simpleton take - but they really only won the arm wrestle tonight because they kicked straighter in front of goal. And that is against what is a swans team hobbled by injury, and frankly playing very poor footy to boot.
Agreed with your assessment mcs, but we were pretty awful tonight. I don’t know how much we can blame Horse as we had quite a few players well down tonight. We’re done for the year so let’s bring in a couple of kids and not persevere with Clarke and Wicks as unfortunately even their best is not good enough- we need better if we want to challenge. In the end it boils down to talent.

One of those years with injuries etc where we've never got going. Can happen. Of course, some will turn on club and coach. Didn't know shepherding was so crucial. Haven't seen it on the stats sheet but you know better.
Shepherding is a way to say to your teammate you have his back and are protecting him. Have you ever played the, game?

Shocking execution and decision making, on every level. I'll give that to St Kilda in the first quarter - they were swarming us, so it's expected to an extent. But to not follow through after we had that brief spell in the second is near-unforgivable.

Fox, Oli and Chad a stand out. Same with Campbell, given his experience. Gulden good but some poor kicks. Heeney tried. Paps starting to regain a bit of form.

The umpiring was outright criminal. It started with the policing of the 15 metre rule (wholly against the Swans) from the opening bounce, then degenerated into a farce from there. Something needs to change, and fast.

EDIT: If there were ever a game to forensically analyse umpiring performance, this is it.
The umpiring has truly got to a comically bad stage. So desperate to find soft free kicks, but can't or won't enforce the basic key tenures of the game.
Like that one where the guy took Heeney on, got tackled beautifully, then spun 360, then incorrectly disposed of it, all play on. Holding the Ball, Incorrect Disposal - take your pick.

Can't pay that, but desperate to find every little soft free kick in other aspects, let alone pay stupid 50s (while technically there, I don't think either should have been paid - and ultimately quite costly).

That one on Gulden in particular was ridiculous - not arguing Gulden wasn't over the mark, but literally the split microsecond the umps stopped saying 'get back' he then paid 50. He gave Gulden zero chance to actually comply. Nicholls is just unbearably bad week in, week out (not a genuine cheating little @@@@ like Stevic), and then you had painted eyes No 20 who seems to never want to blow the whistle at all, and when he does he just guesses.

Can’t see Clarke and Wicks in the team as they are just not up to scratch. Surely we can find better as we’re going nowhere with those 2- I’m sorry but we need more talent than those guys can deliver.
You are spot on here about Hayward too, what has he actually done this year??? Yet he continues to be gifted games...

But he can't be missing easy goals from 25 metres out dead in front playing as a small forward, especially when his around the ground kicking is average at best.

I like him, but I really don't think he is good enough. Would love to be proved wrong, but like Clarke, just a holding role in the team until we find someone better (either short term or long term). Same with Francis - who does a lot right, but then does some things really, really badly.
I like Wicks, and I think he is the best defensive small forward we have, but I have a pet obsession about one of our remaining list weaknesses and that’s a friend for Paps down forward who can roam, tackle and kick. Think Close for Geelong.
