Would imagine decision would be looked at off field and then decided like NRL often. I think given the amount of concussions that it is inevitable and maybe sooner than we think. Most junior AFL comps have it I believe and it has been accepted without drama.

It's weird that Dermott is even asked for his thoughts on what the tribunal penalties should be anymore.
Maybe his agent (and he'll have one, because he's.... you know.... a star, just ask him) should just issue a
statement that Dermott believes that short of a player coming onto the field with an AR-15 assault rifle and
massacring half the opposition team, no player should ever be suspended for anything. And even that
"infringement" is only worth a week on the sideline.Comment

I think it would so hard to get right an immediate send off rule on such a big ground and 36 players playing a 360 sport
Even worse due to the current trend of high pressure footy there is so much going on around the contest
What could work is a 10min sin bin where the footage is looked at again by a “3rd umpire” and then a decision is made on severity
Ie u go back on after 10 or u stay off rest of game"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I can see the possibility where in a grand final a player purposely concusses a good player from the opposition side to help win the premiership. They wouldn't care about being suspended for several weeks to start the following season. A send off rule would make sense to prevent this.Comment

OK, I know you are talking about this season but hey, it has been Horse getting us repeatedly into finals for nearly half of the above time period. Look, it might be time to move on but the club will do what the club will do. No point carrying on about it ad nauseam....maybe you could apply?Comment

Alastair Lynch ....... 10 match suspension, $15,000 fine. Didn’t care about the match suspension as he retired. (Fortunately most of his punches missed.)Comment

We've played finals in 22 of the last 27 seasons....what a failure we are!

In ice hockey they send thugs to a penalty box for a period of time. That is instant consequences for the offending player and team.
Player has the consequences of letting down his team there and then, rather than having a post game consequence.Comment

15th place. The number on the back of Sam Wicks. It's all starting to make sense now.
The Swans players were so focused on the Whisper Challenge that they forgot they were fighting for a premiership.
If not for an administrative error by North Melbourne we might still be in the race for the Harley Reid Cup.
One consolation is that we should have an easy draw next year. We might even be playing against our VFL side twice. Just to give us a leg up.
Should we request a priority pick? Maybe one ahead of Pick 1?Comment

Talk about a storm in a teacup.
There has been no send off rule in the AFL for 150 years and it's been just fine. We weren't disadvantaged by Lloyd being off on Thursday night as we had a sub, a Richmond player was also subbed off earlier than Lloyd so both teams were even.
Hell, Nankervis' bump was far from the worst thing we've seen this year and posters on here are baying for his blood
We were disadvantaged because after 12 seasons as an AFL senior coach, Longmire hasn't worked out that the sub needs to be a mid sized player, not a lumbering KPP or a ruckman, especially on a night where rain was forecast.
