From Adelaide (lived in Sydney since 1968), however happy for gutsy Giants, not easy to win there .

Haven't seen any of the game, but I suspect that Hawthorn kicking 3-13 during the first half, indoors at Marvel, will be driving their fans insane.

Since typing that, Hawthorn have kicked 9-3. So I guess that means that North are even more crap than I thought they were?

Rosebury umpired his 500th game this weekend, becoming only the second field umpire to umpire 500 games.

This is a pretty serious achievement. Never had too many complaints about his umpiring - just gets on with it. Unlike some others in the game, where they think it is all about them, or they are just just very poor umpires.

I suspect there'd be a few people who would like to veto that option; including me.

Although, it will be interesting to see if West Coast can wangle a pick or two? Currently they do appear to be more of a basket case.

24 years as a field umpire is a long time. Some current players had not been born when Rosebury started umpiring. Paul Kelly was still playing, and Plugger had just retired for the first time. The 21st century was still in the future. Remarkable.

Tend to agree although he was one of the umpires in the 2012 GF where it is sometimes forgotten that we got hosed in terms of the free kick count IIRC. Winning erases all blame!

That's true, though unlike 2016, I never felt the umpires were stacked against us that day. They probably missed one or two, but you don't have the dark memory hole of specific and blatant instances like the bad one called against Rampe or the non-call on that dog Easton Wood for what he did to Hanners, or the McLean-Jack incident that should have gone our way and was instead given to them with a 50 thrown on top.

Great post because, statistically, 2012 was nearly as bad for us as 2016!

In 2012, the Dirty Nappies received 21 free kicks and the brave, magnificent Bloods only got 10!

Pure free kick counts are meaningless.

In 2016 we were totally screwed - actual errors from the umpires and at crucial times that changed the momentum of the entire match on multiple occasions. Cost us the game.

In 2012, the umpiring was pretty good. Yes the Hawks won more free kicks but that doesn't mean they were wrong. It was a cracking game and if we lost, it wouldn't have been the umpires fault.

Get your point but one stage in 2016 it was 20-4 Bulldogs way. Definition of meaningful. That also doesn't count all the throws they got away with on that day. The latter is still happening.
