There is no formula because if there was all the teams would be following it and its only an effective
formula if you're the only team with it. What there is, is 18 teams and every year any of about 12 could win it.
Collingwood got ridiculously lucky, winning three finals by under a kick. And having them all played at
their home ground.Comment

Speaking of which, if we are to target an eventual successor for Horse, I hope we’re keeping an eye on Pendlebury’s post playing aspirations. I know he’s got another year to go (at least, who knows, the guy is like Benjamin Button). But I’m not sure I’ve seen a player more destined to be a senior coach.
He’s got off the charts footy IQ - as good as I’ve seen. Think Errol on steroids. Jarrad McVeigh had it too - though not quite at that level - so it makes sense he went into coaching but I still think McVeigh would benefit from time in a system other than the Swans. Let’s hope we can convince Pendles he’d appreciate the chance to test his wits outside Victoria as an assistant, and go from there.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

And getting the rub of the green from the umps in the closing minutes in both the GF and the match re GWS, and getting a charmed run with the health of their older blokes - a few of whom like Elliott and Sidebottom looked cooked a couple of years back.

also argue the good luck with injuries helped propel GWS within a couple points of a GF. In Collingwood's defence, they did
have a lot more scoring shots than Brisbane.
And yes, you would think the chances of Pendlebury of not becoming a coach are zero. He is the real deal and has been able
to be taken seriously ever since he got rid of the dreadlocks. Tho' I usually think Jarrad will be our next coach.
The game itself didn't really get me in even though it was tight the whole way. Tho' that's partly a function of not really
caring too much who won.Comment

That’s great thinking, I’m uninformed: I like it. Horse should stay for 1 more season, as much as I like him and the boys obviously do-more importantly. Time comes when you need to hand the job over to someone with a fresh approach. Our young team should be close to top 4 next year given a good run with injuries and some smart recruiting. If we finish to 4, it will be a good time to quit with a commendable achievement. And if we finish lower, he should quit for sure!'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

It'll be interesting to see where we go if Pyke leaves: I'd support Mark McVeigh.

SEN is reporting that The West Australian is reporting that Pyke is set to decline the Eagles' CEO role. Whether that's because he has a different, better opportunity elsewhere, or whether it's because he loves it too much at the Swans (or just didn't fancy going to the Eagles in their state of play), who knows.

It was a light hearted comment referring to the number of WA players we have as well as Cox and Pyke.Comment

Looks like we now need a new assistant coach, because it's just been reported that Don Pyke has been appointed as the new West Coast CEO. Obviously a challenging job, but his work with us suggests that he'll do a decent job.
It'll be interesting to see how our reshuffle goes. Possibly promoting Mark McVeigh from academy coaching and bringing back Tadhg from the Giants academy to our academy? But I'm sure there's a wide range of other decent options.Comment

Mark McVeigh strikes me as exceptional. I thought he did a good job giving the Giants some tough love during his tenure as acting coach, and yet I heard some interviews with him during his time as Allies coach this year, which is clearly more of a nurturing and development focused role. And boy did he have them playing some good footy.
Though how he and his bro would go in the same box, we'd see. (Mind you, I'm of the view, and have expressed on here before, it'd be healthy for J McVeight to experience another club's program if he has senior coaching aspirations).'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
